Alongside the renewal of Wonder Man, Marvel Studios has confirmed a second season of its animated series, What If…?, which features a zombie-filled storyline. The new season will continue the alternate reality tale where a virus has turned most of the world into the undead, and the remaining heroes must make a last stand. This announcement comes six months after the first season’s release, and fans can look forward to more episodes of this post-apocalyptic adventure.
Brad Winderbaum, who leads Marvel Television, has announced that Marvel Zombies will be back for a second season. He revealed during a recent interview on the Escape Pod podcast that work on Season 2 is already in progress.
I recently watched a rough draft of the first episode of Marvel Zombies Season 2, and it was amazing! I can’t reveal any details, but it’s a fantastic take on the zombie genre and introduces something completely new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we’re really thrilled about.
Disney+ has renewed Marvel Zombies for a second season, just six months after the first season premiered on September 24, 2025. The animated series is a continuation of the popular “What If…Zombies!” episode from Season 1 of What If…?, exploring a timeline where a zombie virus breaks out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Season 1 featured several heroes introduced in Phases 4 and 5, including Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, and Yelena Belova, and it also introduced Blade to the MCU before Mahershala Ali took on the role in live-action films.

The first season of Marvel Zombies ended with a shocking twist: the Scarlet Witch tricked Ms. Marvel into believing she was safe in a normal world, when she was actually still surrounded by zombies. Ironheart ultimately revealed the truth. While initially seeming like a dark and final ending, the announcement of a second season suggests we’ll see even more Marvel characters join the story. Characters like Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, Daredevil, Punisher, Hercules, and several of the Eternals – who haven’t appeared in What If…? or Marvel Zombies yet – could now make an appearance.
Marvel Studios is building a growing collection of multi-season animated shows. What If…? aired for three seasons between 2021 and 2024, and X-Men ’97 will be back for its second season in summer 2026, with a third season already planned. Marvel Zombies and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, both of which premiered in 2025, will each return for a second season in Fall 2026. As for the anthology series Eyes of Wakanda, there’s no news yet about a potential second season.
According to Marvel executive Winderbaum, we might see Marvel Zombies arrive around 2027. Right now, the only confirmed Marvel Cinematic Universe releases for that year are Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again in March and Avengers: Secret Wars in December. Marvel Zombies Season 2 would probably be released around the same time as the first season – late September or early October – following Marvel and Disney+’s pattern of releasing spooky content like Werewolf by Night or Agatha All Along before Halloween.
