CBS is searching for a new show to fill the timeslot currently occupied by . The network unexpectedly canceled the program in July 2025, and the final episode will air this spring.
Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show will end its run on May 21st. CBS has announced that Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen will take its place, starting May 22nd at 11:35 p.m. Another show produced by Byron Allen, the comedy game show Funny You Should Ask, will follow at 12:35 a.m.
Comics Unleashed is changing its airtime from its previous slot of 12:35 am. It had been airing at that time, including during the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes.
The series is expected to be a good financial move for CBS. Allen is essentially paying for airtime for his own two shows, and his company, Allen Media Group, will profit by selling the advertising slots during those two hours.
Byron Allen, head of Allen Media Group, announced that CBS will be reviving his comedy programs, Comics Unleashed and Funny You Should Ask. Allen originally created Comics Unleashed twenty years ago to give comedians a place to perform, and he’s thrilled CBS recognizes the need for more laughter in the world.
Allen achieved his goal, having expressed interest in the 11:35 timeslot long ago. Several months later, in October 2025, he officially put himself forward as a candidate. He stated clearly, “I’m ready and willing to take on the show.” He also shared, “I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for fifty years, and I’m absolutely going for it.”
Comics Unleashed, hosted by Byron Allen, is a comedy talk show where comedians perform short routines on various subjects. The show first aired in 2006 and ran for ten years, until 2016. It returned to television on CBS in September 2023, running until January 2024, and then again on September 23, 2025. It will be moving to a new timeslot in May.
