I’ve been a Pokémon fan since I was a kid – I’ve played practically every game they’ve released! What I always loved most was building a team of Pokémon and really connecting with them. I wasn’t really focused on catching them all, but battling with my friends was a blast. As the games got more complicated, I started getting into competitive battling, and it’s been amazing to watch that scene grow. Honestly though, it’s become so complex now that it’s a little overwhelming – for me and a lot of other fans, I think.

Things are about to get a lot more exciting for Pokémon fans! Tomorrow, Pokémon Champions launches on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. This isn’t just another battling game; it’s a chance for players who don’t have a lot of time to get involved in competitive Pokémon. Unlike other games that require extensive preparation, Pokémon Champions makes battling easier and more approachable. As a longtime fan of competitive Pokémon, this game is a dream come true and could really change how people play the series.

Finally, a Pokemon Game Built Only for Battling

Pokemon Champions aims to make competitive battling easier for everyone. Unlike other games where battling is just an extra feature, this game puts it first. While you can still have friendly battles, most players will likely focus on the ranked and tournament modes. This allows the game to simplify things that usually take a lot of time and effort.

Look, I’ve been playing competitive Pokemon for ages, and honestly, half the battle isn’t playing – it’s all the prep work. These mechanics can be especially confusing for beginners, who not only need to learn what they are, but also how to train for them and figure out how they’ll impact their Pokémon.

Even after learning how everything works, building a strong Pokémon team takes a lot of time. Things like breeding for the best stats and abilities, training them properly, and teaching them the right moves can easily take hours. For players who simply want to enjoy battling, this can feel like a frustrating obstacle instead of something fun. Plus, you need to stay aware of the current popular strategies to know which Pokémon are most effective. Then, you’ll either need to catch those top Pokémon yourself, or build your entire team to counter them, which might mean changing your plans along the way.

I’ll never forget how stressed I was when I first tried to build a competitive Pokémon team. It felt like a huge amount of work – I spent more time getting ready than actually battling! Ultimately, it was just too time-consuming. Even with the newer Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games making things easier, getting six Pokémon fully prepared for tournaments is still a big challenge.
