DC’s Absolute Universe has presented some surprising and unusual takes on classic characters, and the Absolute Batman series is particularly shocking. The series has already offered wild new versions of villains like Bane, The Joker, Poison Ivy, and Mr. Freeze. Now, creators Scott Snyder, Nick Dragotta, and Frank Martin have unveiled their take on Robin, and it’s a surprising twist – there’s more than one Robin, and their designs are completely unexpected.
DC Comics initially hinted at Absolute Batman #20 with a cover featuring a large letter ‘R’, but they’ve now shown off the full artwork, and it’s quite a surprise. The cover depicts a team of characters all wearing armor with the ‘R’ symbol, led by a huge Robin-shaped robot with a powerful gun. This central mech is colored red, black, and green, and another, blue and grey Robin robot stands behind it. Below them are three more characters riding motorcycles, each wearing a different color suit: red, yellow, and green. You can see the complete cover image below.

Absolute Batman’s Robin Debut Is Going To Be Wild

It’s surprising to see so many Robins appearing together, but it actually fits with the history of the character. Over the years, different heroes have taken on the Robin mantle – like Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne – and each has their own dedicated fans. Now, the Absolute Universe is exploring the idea of multiple Robins, but in this version, they’re enemies of Batman rather than his sidekicks.
Details are scarce, but the latest issue of Absolute Batman hints that a mysterious group is preparing to take action following recent events in Gotham. The story promises to reveal hidden truths, all stemming from the death of an unknown character.
Okay, so Gotham’s reeling from a major loss, and this new issue throws us right into the aftermath. We’re seeing the Robins step up – and let me tell you, they’re not just patrolling, they’re investigating. This isn’t just a typical crime-fighting story; secrets are coming out, big ones. Honestly, this feels like a really pivotal issue for the whole Bat-family, a turning point, and I think it’s going to change things moving forward.
The new designs for the Robins are really striking, and it’s unusual to see Batman appear so much smaller than other characters – something we usually only see when he’s up against Bane. The issue, Absolute Batman #20, will be available in comic stores on May 13, 2026.
