Those who used to play the Game Boy Advance might remember Sigma Star Saga. It’s a classic game that blends RPG elements with shooting action, created by the developers at WayForward.
First launched in 2005, this game combines the fast-paced shooting of shmups with the exploration of adventure games, creating a fresh and interesting gameplay experience.
The game is now available on PS5 through emulation, and it includes helpful features like save states and the option to rewind gameplay if you make an error.
Here’s how the dev describes the game:
Sigma Star Saga DX revives the beloved shooter/RPG with exciting improvements! This game blends fast-paced, side-scrolling space combat with top-down exploration of planets. You play as Ian Recker, a pilot working undercover within the alien Krill Empire, in a desperate attempt to save humanity. It’s a thrilling combination of genres!
This updated version includes several enhancements, such as a better map, fewer random battles, a more balanced experience system, improved conversations, extra save locations, and various bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
It’s great to see this product available again! However, at a price of $19.99 or £15.99, it feels a bit expensive.
The game includes unique art and a music player, showing the developers invested a lot of work into it. However, considering it’s a Game Boy Advance game that’s more than 20 years old, we expected it to cost less.
