Balamory return date officially confirmed by BBC following first look at returning cast

The BBC has revealed when fans can expect the revamped series of Balamory to land on our screens.

The popular children’s TV show, which first appeared on screens from 2002 to 2005 and is set in a make-believe island community off the coast of Scotland, is returning to CBeebies on Monday, April 20th.

This announcement follows the broadcaster’s recent reveal of the cast – including both new and returning members – for the upcoming series.

I’m so excited to hear that some of the original cast are coming back! Julie Wilson Nimmo, who played Miss Hoolie, Andrew Agnew as PC Plum, Kim Tserkezie as Penny Pocket, and Juliet Cadzow as Edie McCredie will all be returning, which is fantastic news!

The show is also adding several new characters: Ava Potts, a scientist and inventor played by Danielle Jam; Dr. Ollie, a veterinarian and father of two, portrayed by Carl Spencer; and William Andrews as the Harbour Master.

Nimmo, known for playing Miss Hoolie, recently told TopMob magazine she worried about how quickly time was passing while they were filming the latest season.

She admitted feeling deeply moved while filming a scene similar to one from the original movie. Initially, she was concerned about appearing older, but a producer reassured her, telling her to let go of those worries, and she agreed with that advice.

She added that it’s wonderful to see herself portrayed on screen, and she’s developed a lot both as an actor and as a person since then.

It was announced in 2024 that the beloved show would return for at least two seasons.

Kate Morton, who leads programming for young children at BBC Children’s and Education, explained that it was great to have both familiar and new actors join the show. This blend of old favorites and fresh talent, she said, would create a viewing experience families could enjoy together.

“This vibrant new series will delight both children and the grown-ups who remember it fondly.”

Balamory will air on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer on Monday 20 April, 2026.
