The first three episodes of the new series, The Testaments, are now streaming on Disney+. It revisits the oppressive world of Gilead, which viewers first encountered in the acclaimed series, The Handmaid’s Tale.
Created by Bruce Miller, who also leads The Handmaid’s Tale, this new series takes place years after the original and follows the stories of young women growing up in the world of Gilead.
The cast includes Chase Infiniti, known for “One Battle After Another,” as Agnes, the daughter of a powerful Gilead commander. Lucy Halliday joins as Daisy, a new student who has come from Canada to attend Aunt Lydia’s exclusive school for training future wives.
Elisabeth Moss, known for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale, is not only starring in the new series but is also an executive producer. She’s already appeared as her character, June, in the first and third episodes.
Miller explained in an interview with TopMob the reason why June is back for the sequel.
He explained that he always envisioned The Testaments as being told through multiple perspectives, with characters who have ties to those in The Handmaid’s Tale.
We’re not aiming to recreate season 7 of The Handmaid’s Tale, but there’s a hopeful element in the idea that, like in The Testaments, there’s someone looking out for everyone – a ‘June’ for us all – and that’s a comforting thought.

The Testaments season 1 episode 4 will be released on Wednesday 15 April on Disney+
This episode, titled ‘Green Tea,’ was written by Elise Brown. She’s also known for her work on the shows ‘Yellowjackets’ and ‘Candy,’ the true crime drama featuring Jessica Biel.

What is The Testaments about?
As a huge fan of The Handmaid’s Tale, I was so excited to hear about The Testaments! It’s basically a continuation of the story, and it’s based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel – it all takes place in the world of Gilead, so it’s going to be intense!
Agnes attends Aunt Lydia’s exclusive school, where young women are trained to become obedient wives for the Commanders and important figures in Gilead. She’s the adopted daughter of Commander MacKenzie and his wife, Tabitha, but was originally Hannah, June’s daughter who was taken from her.
The new series will focus on challenges facing Agnes and her classmates. It centers on Agnes, a responsible and religious girl, and Daisy, a newcomer who recently joined the community from outside its boundaries.
At Aunt Lydia’s strict boarding school for girls training to be wives, where harsh discipline is presented as God’s will, the friendship between these students will spark a rebellion that changes everything – their memories, their lives, and what’s to come.
