The popular anime series Mobile Suit Gundam is known for its surprising collaborations. In the past, it’s paired with everything from Hello Kitty in an animated space adventure! Despite starting in the 1970s and having a long history, Gundam continues to expand its universe. Now, in a funny new advertisement, the original Gundam story is teaming up with a well-known restaurant for another unexpected, and humorous, crossover.
McDonald’s Japan frequently collaborates with popular anime series. They’ve previously released special menus and promotions for shows like One Piece, Pokemon, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Following a successful KPop Demon Hunters campaign in North America, McDonald’s is now partnering with Mobile Suit Gundam. This collaboration includes new food items and funny animated shorts that playfully reimagine the Gundam universe. The iconic mecha robots are getting a fresh look, and even McDonald’s food is being redesigned with a *Gundaminspired makeover.
Gundam x McDonald’s
McDonald’s recently announced a funny crossover event with the classic anime Mobile Suit Gundam. The story involves a rivalry over their new Chicken Tatsuta sandwich: Char Aznable targets the sandwich, while Amuro Ray pilots a special “Gundam Chicken Tatsuta Custom” to defend it. The promotion playfully describes a battle fueled by tartar sauce and destiny. Unfortunately, this exciting collaboration isn’t currently planned for release in North America, though anime is becoming increasingly available outside of Japan.
Fans of Mobile Suit Gundam have a lot to look forward to in 2026! A new sequel, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, is finally coming to North American theaters this summer. It was released in Japan earlier this year on May 15th, and now Western audiences can experience the continuation of the original Gundam universe. The film’s main character, Noa Hathaway, is seen as a successor to both Amuro and Char, forging a unique link between the Earth Federation and Zeon.
The popular anime series Gundam is expanding into live-action films. Legendary Pictures and Bandai Namco Filmworks are collaborating on a new movie, and stars like Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo have already joined the cast. Though it’s still unclear if the film will follow existing Gundam storylines, production is now officially in progress.
