Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is generating a lot more excitement than its first season, suggesting the show’s creators have really hit their stride. Episode 4, “Gloves Off,” has been a big moment for Marvel fans, finally resolving storylines that began way back in the original Netflix Daredevil series.
Charlie Cox’s Daredevil was in a desperate struggle against his enemy, Bullseye (Wilson Bethel), to reach Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) and Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer). Daredevil was trying to protect the Fisks from an assassination attempt and even save Bullseye from danger, but it quickly became clear that Bullseye was perfectly capable of handling himself – and didn’t need any help.
Bullseye’s Diner Fight is the MCU Successor to Daredevil‘s Iconic Hallway Fight
The episode of Daredevil: Born Again titled “Gloves Off” begins with Dex Poindexter going about a seemingly normal day in New York City (set to Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind”). He starts with exercise and a healthy breakfast, and even helps an elderly neighbor. Dex then goes to a diner, orders a milkshake, and calls Mayor Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force, falsely reporting that the Punisher is inside. A full SWAT team arrives, only to discover they’re facing Bullseye. He quickly defeats all the officers using items from the diner – forks, knives, and even a toothpick and straw as weapons – which he had already surveyed. Bullseye makes a point of protecting the other people in the diner, telling one shocked witness that he’s “one of the good guys.”
Fans have consistently criticized the action sequences in the second season of Marvel’s Born Again, especially compared to the more impressive action in the original Netflix Daredevil series. While the new season has increased the amount of action, viewers haven’t been satisfied with how it’s filmed. Complaints include dark and shaky footage, unrealistic scenarios like a ship capsizing too quickly, and a prison escape scene that relies on confusing camera angles and fast cuts instead of detailed fight choreography.

The episode “Gloves Off” really stood out for its impressive action and suspense, reaching a quality level you’d expect from high-end television. The fight in the Bullseye diner was just a taste of what was to come, which is why Marvel released it as a preview. Viewers were so concerned the clip would ruin the best action scene that they were even more surprised when the episode featured two more fantastic action sequences. These included a brutal rematch between Daredevil and Bullseye in Dex’s apartment, and the final, explosive showdown at Kingpin’s charity boxing match involving Daredevil, Bullseye, the Fisk family, and the AVTF.
Even though this episode of Daredevil is already one of the best on Netflix, the fight scene in the diner is quickly becoming a fan favorite. It’s the kind of moment that will likely be shared and remembered online for a long time after the season ends. And to be clear, calling this a standout doesn’t diminish the incredible hallway fights from the original Netflix series – those fights actually set the stage for the reboot to be this action-packed. Full credit to them.
