New episodes of The Pitt are now available each week in the UK, and the series is nearly complete in the US.
Most UK viewers probably haven’t seen the later episodes yet, but many have likely heard about a storyline involving officers from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) who appear at the hospital.
The show depicts situations where patients and staff feel unsafe, mirroring real-life events reported in the news across the country. However, executive producer John Wells shared that HBO asked him to ensure this storyline was presented with balance.
Noah Wyle, known for his role in “Dr. House,” learned about the conversation afterward. In a recent interview with Variety, he explained that the discussions were motivated by a mix of factors, including political and creative considerations, as well as genuine concerns and uncertainty.

At first, I was worried about the changes we were making. But after seeing the final result, I actually think we created something better – more refined and subtle. It’s a bit more open to interpretation than the original, and I believe that will ultimately benefit the story.
Looking back, this episode really played out as a ‘show, don’t tell’ situation, and honestly, that was sufficient. It’s fascinating because the full story actually came out after we finished filming. It turns out we didn’t even need to do half of what we did – the impact had already taken root in the public consciousness. It’s like the message was already there, and we just confirmed it.
I recently spoke with Matthew Wyle, and we touched on the already-greenlit third season of the show. Naturally, I had to ask about a potential time jump – would there be a significant leap forward between what we’ve seen in season two and what’s coming next? He shared some insights on that, and it sounds like we might see a bit of a change in the timeline.

Each season of the show follows a single 15-hour workday at the hospital. There was a ten-month gap between the first and second seasons, but the time jump between seasons two and three will likely be shorter.
We’re only looking to fast-forward to a different time of year, specifically to see how changes in weather affect the types of cases we handle,” Wyle explained. “For example, if we’re currently dealing with summer issues, what new challenges arise in the winter with cold temperatures, snow, and icy conditions?
You can now stream the first season of The Pitt on HBO Max in the UK. New episodes of season 2 are released every Thursday.
