With so many streaming options, it’s easy to find most classic movies and TV shows. While a huge number of films and series – both animated and live-action – have moved from DVDs and Blu-rays to streaming platforms, not everything is available. Some shows and movies, for different reasons, haven’t made the transition, and a well-known horror series is a good example. Fortunately, a classic horror anthology series is finally coming to streaming this year, and it will be available sooner than you think.
As a horror fan, I’ve been waiting for this one! For years, Tales From The Crypt has been conspicuously absent from most streaming services. Despite originating on HBO, it never made its way to HBO Max, which always felt like a missed opportunity. But fantastic news! Shudder, the streaming service dedicated to horror, is finally bringing the show back next month. Season one drops on May 1st, and they’ll be adding a new season every Friday after that. By June 12th, we’ll have the entire series available to stream – it’s the first time all of the Cryptkeeper’s creepy stories will be in one place online! And the trailer is awesome – John Kassir, the original voice of the Cryptkeeper, is back to deliver the goods. Definitely one to watch!
Swing Open The Crypt

AMC Networks’ Courtney Thomasma, Executive Vice President of Streaming, shared her excitement about Shudder becoming the exclusive streaming home for Tales from the Crypt. She described the show as a landmark in horror, saying Shudder is both honored and thrilled to host it. Thomasma believes Shudder’s audience will love this classic, delightfully dark entertainment and is happy to bring The Crypt Keeper back to viewers.
If you’re unfamiliar with Tales From The Crypt or curious about its origins, the TV show was originally based on the horror comics published by EC Comics. It premiered on HBO in 1989 and ran for seven seasons, concluding in 1996. Over its 93 episodes, the show attracted a number of well-known directors and actors. The Tales From The Crypt franchise also expanded with several films that further developed its spooky world.
It’s been a long time since a new Tales From The Crypt series aired – the show ended in 1996. However, a reboot almost happened in 2016! Director M. Night Shyamalan planned a ten-episode revival, but it fell through for the same reason the original series isn’t available to stream: complicated licensing rights. Hopefully, recent successes with streaming will open the door for a future comeback of the franchise.
