fans will be able to get a better sense of who Ben Reilly really is, thanks to Alamo Drafthouse.
This spring, Alamo Drafthouse is showing a series of classic, gritty films called “Web of Shadows” that influenced the look and feel of the new Nicolas Cage series, Spider-Noir, coming to Prime Video. The series celebrates the films that inspired the show’s unique style.
Alamo Drafthouse is showing a series of films called “Web of Shadows: Films That Inspired Spider-Noir” starting April 27th and running through May 18th. The series is designed to get audiences ready for the new live-action Spider-Noir character. According to Alamo Drafthouse, each film in the series is filled with mystery, dangerous women, and characters who aren’t clearly good or evil. Here’s the list of movies they’ve chosen:
4/27 – IN A LONELY PLACE
5/4 – SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS
5/11 –THE THIRD MAN
5/18- KISS ME DEADLY
Each book on this list is expected to shape the unique mood and themes of “Spider-Noir,” bringing its own flavor to the upcoming Marvel adaptation. If you’re interested in learning more about Spider-Noir beyond the show itself, these books will fully transport you into the exciting world of 1930s crime.
Beyond the movie experience, the Web of Shadows event features a special menu with food and drinks inspired by 1930s diners and classic black-and-white films. Guests can enjoy items like ‘Popcorn Noir,’ ‘The City Dog,’ and cocktails like the ‘Black Manhattan’ and ‘Dark & Stormy’ – all designed to match the films’ dark and dramatic feel.
On May 25th, select Alamo Drafthouse cinemas will finish showing the “Web of Shadows: Films That Inspired Spider-Noir” series with a screening of the first two episodes of Spider-Noir. The cinema also hinted at some unannounced extras for fans to enjoy.
What To Know About Amazon’s Spider-Noir Show
Okay, so Alamo Drafthouse is showing this cool-looking series called Spider-Noir, and honestly, I was still wondering what Amazon was going to do with this version of Spider-Man. Turns out, it’s a live-action take on the Spider-Man Noir comic. Basically, it’s about Ben Reilly – played by Nicolas Cage, which is awesome – as a kind of world-weary private detective in 1930s New York. He’s dealing with some tough stuff from his past after a personal loss, and ends up being the only hero the city has. Sounds pretty neat!
So, I’m really excited about the voice cast for Spider-Noir! Marvel’s seriously brought in some big names for this one. We’re talking Nicolas Cage, who’s won an Oscar for films like Adaptation and Pig. And Lamorne Morris, you might know him from Fargo or New Girl, he’s an Emmy winner! They also got Li Jun Li from Sinners and Babylon, Karen Rodriguez who was in The Hunting Wives, and Abraham Popoola (Atlas, Slow Horses). Plus, Jack Huston, a SAG Award winner (Boardwalk Empire), and the incredible Brendan Gleeson – he’s been nominated for an Oscar and won an Emmy for The Banshees of Inisherin and, of course, he was in Harry Potter! It’s a seriously talented group.
The new series Spider-Noir premieres on MGM+ on May 25th, and all eight episodes will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video starting May 27th. If you’re interested in seeing the films that inspired the series, you can buy tickets for the Web of Shadows event on the Alamo Drafthouse website.
