Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss Director Describes the Game in Latest Trailer

Big Bad Wolf Studios just released a new trailer for their upcoming horror detective game, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss. The trailer shows off gameplay and includes commentary from the game’s director, Tommaso Sergi, who explains what makes this game unique. You can watch it below.

In the game’s trailer, Sergi explains that they set out to make a detective story where figuring things out is the most important part. They wanted players to have that same exciting ‘aha!’ moment – the feeling of sudden understanding you get in games like Outer Wilds or The Forgotten City – when everything falls into place and you know exactly what to do next.

Sergi demonstrated some of the cool tools players will use in the game, including SONAR and the vault. These tools work together to help players understand the mysteries they’ll encounter. The game takes place in diverse locations, from the underwater forests of New England to the city of R’lyeh.

The upcoming game Cthulhu: Call of the Abyss will be released on April 16th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Players will take on the role of occult investigator Noah, who investigates the strange disappearances of miners at an underwater facility in the Pacific Ocean. The game’s trailer encourages players to try out a free demo available on PC.

A trailer released in February showed off the beginning of the game. The one-minute prologue quickly set the overall mood and gave players a good idea of the dangers they’ll face while solving mysteries.

A new trailer dropped last month, giving players a look at how Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss will play. It highlighted features like exploring underwater and solving mysteries by examining clues. We also got a glimpse of KEY, the AI partner who will accompany the main character.

I was surprised to learn Nacon isn’t just releasing Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss! They also showed off ACE Team’s The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu way back in November 2025. What’s cool about this one is it’s built around cooperative play, so you can experience the Cthulhu mythos with friends instead of going it alone.

The game puts teams of four players on a mysterious island packed with treasure, but also dangerous creatures. The goal is simple: grab as much treasure as you can and escape. However, things quickly become complicated when strange monsters appear, and players start experiencing hallucinations. These hallucinations can be minor frights, or so intense they might even drive you to turn on your teammates.

The psychological horror game The Mound: Call of Cthulhu will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S starting July 15th. A new trailer released alongside the announcement shows gameplay footage captured by several content creators as they played the cooperative horror experience.
