Matthew Perry’s stepdad Keith Morrison is letting the justice system take the lead.
After Jasveen Sangha, nicknamed the “Ketamine Queen,” pleaded guilty to providing drugs that led to the death of the actor from Friends, the Dateline correspondent spoke to her during the sentencing, which resulted in a 15-year prison term.
In a statement given on April 8th, as reported by Today, Morrison—who married Matthew’s mother, Suzanne Perry Morrison, in 1981—said he felt sympathy for the person who harmed his son. He explained he didn’t harbor any hatred or anger, but directly stated, ‘You’re a drug dealer.’
The journalist kept his statement succinct, adding, “The fact is you supplied an addict.”
He went on to honor what could’ve become of Perry’s life had he not died in 2023 at age 54.
The 78-year-old described the man as truly unique, saying, ‘He had a special energy I’ve never encountered before.’ He felt the man’s career was cut short, adding, ‘He deserved to achieve much more – at least two more significant accomplishments.’
During her sentencing, Sangha admitted she made “poor decisions” and took responsibility for them.
Speaking to the court, the 42-year-old woman said she asks for forgiveness daily. She expressed gratitude for the difficult lesson she’d learned and for being removed from the situation, according to NBC News.
After the sentencing, Perry’s stepfather spoke to the press outside the courthouse, saying his family – including Perry’s father, John Bennett Perry, and his wife, Debbie Boyle Perry – were relieved the case was finally over.
Morrison expressed deep sadness about Matthew’s passing and also sympathized with the perpetrator’s family. She stated that there were no winners in this situation.

Morrison described the 15-year sentence given to Sangha as fair, while also noting that Sangha clearly regretted her actions as a former ketamine dealer.
He stated plainly that she was human and believed she would adjust well to her prison sentence.
