Marvel’s Defenders Revival Means the MCU Can Finally Complete 5 Unfinished Superhero Stories

Okay, folks, get ready, because Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ is shaping up to be HUGE for the MCU. We already knew Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, and a few others from the old Netflix shows were crossing over, but now it looks like the entire Defenders team is joining the fun! Recent photos confirm appearances by Mike Colter as Luke Cage and Finn Jones as Iron Fist. Basically, Marvel is bringing everything that was previously on the sidelines – that gritty, street-level world from Netflix – fully into the main MCU. And get this – it looks like The Hand, the shadowy organization from the Daredevil series, is even making its way into the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline. This is a game changer, seriously!

Now that Netflix’s Marvel shows are officially part of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, here’s a look at the storylines from those shows that fans are hoping will be continued or resolved.

5) What Happened to Elektra’s Body?

The biggest surprise from the upcoming Marvel/Netflix universe isn’t the return of Luke Cage and Iron Fist – we’d already heard whispers about that. What really shocked fans was seeing The Hand appear in the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While rumors pointed to a mob war involving Mister Negative and his Inner Demons, it now seems the villain might be someone else entirely – potentially Jean Grey, controlling The Hand, perhaps without even realizing it.

Even if The Hand wasn’t completely destroyed in The Defenders – and it’s possible they survived because members are located globally – a key question remains: is Elektra still alive? She was resurrected by The Hand once before, and her body vanished again at the end of the series. Hopefully, Élodie Yung will return as Elektra Natchios in the Marvel Cinematic Universe someday.

4) What Happened to Danny Rand’s Powers?

The MCU really needs to revamp Iron Fist. Danny Rand faced problems from the beginning, partly because viewers unfamiliar with the comics questioned why the character wasn’t Asian, but mostly because the Netflix series simply didn’t do him justice. Finn Jones’ performance unfortunately didn’t help overcome the weak writing.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has an opportunity to recapture the magic of Luke Cage and Iron Fist’s dynamic from the comics, but there’s also unfinished business from the Netflix series. In that show, Danny Rand passed his Iron Fist ability to Colleen Wing and then fought using energy channeled through a pair of guns, similar to a previous Iron Fist from World War II. The big questions now are: what exactly are these new powers for Iron Fist, and will the MCU continue this storyline?

3) Colleen Wing as Iron Fist

This raises the biggest question: will the Marvel Cinematic Universe let Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) keep the Iron Fist abilities she earned in season two of Iron Fist? And if she does, will we see her team up with Luke Cage, Danny Rand, and Jessica Jones again? It’s important that the MCU continues Colleen’s story, as she’s a compelling character, and a storyline where she’s Iron Fist, alongside another version of the hero played by Danny Rand, could be fantastic.

It would be great to see Simone Missick return as Misty Knight, continuing her connection with Colleen Wing – perhaps even in their own ‘Daughters of the Dragon’ special, like the planned ‘Punisher: One Last Kill’. And it would be fantastic to bring Rosario Dawson back as Claire Temple, giving these powerful female characters a chance to shine in the MCU.

2) What About Luke Cage & Jessica Jones?

Fans are confused about Jessica Jones and Luke Cage’s roles in the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again. The latest trailer revealed a surprising detail: Jessica Jones told Daredevil she was upset because the Anti-Vigilante Task Force visited her home while her daughter was present. This is unexpected because Jessica didn’t have a daughter in the previous Netflix series.

The introduction of Dani Cage, Jessica Jones’ daughter in the comics, raises a big question for fans of the Netflix shows. Since Dani is the child of both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, it makes people wonder if the two finally became a couple after the series ended. Did they get married, or did they simply have a child without getting back together? This is the most pressing question for fans of The Defenders right now, perhaps second only to one other mystery.

1) Luke Cage Becoming a Harlem Crime Boss

Fans are still wondering what happened to Luke Cage after Netflix cancelled its Marvel series. Throughout the show, Luke acted as Harlem’s protector, but his story took a darker turn. He ultimately became the new crime boss, not to gain power, but to control the criminal underworld and keep the people of Harlem safe.

He transitioned from operating secretly as a vigilante to becoming a prominent public figure, but this change strained his relationships with close friends like Claire Temple, as he became more driven and detached. In the comics, Luke Cage challenged Wilson Fisk directly, running for Mayor of New York and revealing the widespread corruption. The series will likely reveal whether Fisk has returned to his criminal ways or is once again fighting crime as a vigilante, and this will probably be shown later this season on Daredevil: Born Again.
