Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Star Shares Major Season 3 Concern: “How Will They Depict It?”

Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has finished, continuing the story after the mage exam. Frieren and her companions journey to the Northern Plateau, facing increasingly dangerous challenges. This season, consisting of 10 episodes, covers the Continued Northern Travels and Divine Revolte arcs. The finale also introduces the Golden Land Arc, widely considered a highlight of the manga. As the story progresses, Frieren’s group will embark on an even more intense quest towards Aureole, the resting place for souls.

After the second season ended, the anime’s website published interviews with the voice actors for Frieren (Atsumi Tanezaki), Fern (Kana Ichinose), and Stark (Chiaki Kobyashi). They discussed their work on the new season, how it differed from the first, and their overall impressions of the story. Kana Ichinose revealed a significant worry regarding the upcoming third season when asked about the announcement.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Star Worries Over The Golden Land Arc

Ichinose mentioned that, as a fan of the original story, their first question was how the iconic golden city would be visualized on screen. They’re excited to see it come to life, but the announcement still feels distant and surreal. That distance, however, makes the prospect of seeing it realized even more exciting to imagine.

She added, “I’m really curious about how they’ll visually create a world made of gold – just imagining the colors and overall feel is thrilling! Fern, the character, is also about to enter a new chapter. I can’t reveal too much yet, but I’m committed to tackling it with everything I have. I hope you’ll have fun speculating and are excited to see what comes next.”

The upcoming Golden Land Arc takes place in a city literally made of gold. After saying goodbye to Methode and Genau, Frieren and her companions hear rumors of this incredible place and decide to investigate. People are flocking from everywhere just to see it with their own eyes. The arc’s climax reveals the city is real and is actually the birthplace of Denken, where one of the powerful Seven Sages of Destruction is living.

The next season of the anime will reveal the secrets of the mysterious city, and Ichinose is particularly interested in how it will look. Because the original manga is in black and white, fans are eager to finally see the Golden City fully realized in color. While the finale showed only a distant view, the upcoming season promises to explore the land’s hidden beauty.

When Will Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 3 Release?

Immediately following the season two finale, the anime’s website confirmed a third season is planned for 2027. Along with the announcement, a new key visual was revealed, giving fans their first glimpse of Mahat, a central character in the upcoming Golden Land Arc. Mahat is incredibly powerful, being one of the Seven Sages of Destruction. Because the Golden Land Arc spans 28 chapters in the source material, it’s currently unclear if the third season will include any other storylines. The first two seasons are available to stream on Crunchyroll, and Season 3 is also expected to premiere there.
