Even though we’re only two episodes into Season 5 of The Boys, the series is clearly heading towards a major battle between the heroes and Homelander. It’s a good time to look at who the strongest characters are and consider who has the best chance of winning. Power levels have changed throughout The Boys and Gen V – characters often die, and others are getting more powerful, like Butcher. Warning: Spoilers ahead for the first two episodes of The Boys Season 5.
Now that powerful characters like Stormlight, Victoria Neuman, and Queen Maeve are gone – either defeated or powerless – the list of the strongest superpowered individuals in The Boys has changed. With A-Train’s recent death in the season 5 premiere, the power dynamics have shifted even further. After the first two episodes of the final season, here’s a look at who the most powerful characters are now, and it’s going to be exciting to watch them clash as the season continues.
7) Starlight

Starlight has changed dramatically since the beginning of The Boys. Her powers have grown so much that she’s now capable of confronting Homelander, something she couldn’t have dreamed of in Season 1. While she’s still not likely to defeat him in a direct fight, the fact that she can now disarm him demonstrates her incredible strength. Over the seasons, she’s learned to fly, gained greater control over her energy blasts, and become much more resilient. She’s also become more willing to do whatever it takes, making all of her improvements even more dangerous. Although she may not be as physically powerful as some other supes, Starlight is now fully capable of defending herself.
6) Cindy

Even though she doesn’t get as much focus as other characters, Cindy is a seriously powerful presence in The Boys, and the beginning of Season 5 really shows just how dangerous she is. Her ability to move things with her mind lets her destroy almost anything – or anyone. We see this when prisoners try to escape Vought’s camps, as Cindy can instantly crush them, even from far away. It’s a terrifying power that even made Starlight back down at the end of Season 4. While Cindy is incredibly strong, she needs to use her hands to activate her powers, which makes her weak against opponents like Butcher or Marie. She can take damage, but she doesn’t have the overwhelming strength that makes Homelander and his fellow supes nearly unbeatable. So, despite being powerful, she still ranks lower on the list compared to the strongest characters.
5) Ryan Butcher

When discussing the strongest characters in The Boys, Ryan deserves a spot. As the first supe born naturally, he possesses a similar level of raw power to his father, Homelander, and can unintentionally cause serious harm when provoked. Like Homelander, Ryan is incredibly durable, can fly, and has laser vision. This makes him more powerful than many supes, though his lack of experience currently places him below characters like Butcher, Soldier Boy, and Homelander himself. However, if Ryan continues to develop his abilities, he could eventually become the most powerful of them all. He’s already a major threat to Homelander, and their shared powers give him a unique chance to even exceed his father’s strength.
4) Billy Butcher

Even before gaining powers from Compound V, Butcher was remarkably resilient and could fight surprisingly well against stronger opponents. It’s no wonder he’s now one of the most powerful characters in The Boys. In Season 5, Butcher shows he’s incredibly tough, able to withstand bullets and heavy damage like other super-powered individuals. He’s also much faster and stronger, letting him go toe-to-toe with formidable enemies. What really sets him apart are the tentacles that emerge from his stomach, giving him unique long-range attack and restraint capabilities. These tendrils prove crucial in battles, like against Cindy, and he even manages to defeat Victoria Neuman – formerly a major threat – using them.
3) Soldier Boy

Butcher is very strong, but he isn’t as powerful as top-tier Supes like Homelander. The closest comparison to Homelander is Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles. Soldier Boy is essentially the original model – his genetic material was used to create Homelander. He’s from the first version of Compound V, which explains why he doesn’t age, something even Homelander can’t do. In a fight, Soldier Boy matches Homelander in speed, strength, and durability. While he doesn’t have laser vision, his radiation blasts are incredibly dangerous. He’s a threat at both close and long range and is extremely hard to kill. He even survives the super-virus in The Boys, requiring extreme measures to contain him. Homelander is generally considered slightly stronger, but only one other character in The Boys might be able to defeat Soldier Boy – though this hasn’t been proven, and it would be a very close fight.
2) Marie Moreau

Following the events of Gen V Season 2, Marie Moreau has become a remarkably powerful supe, now ranking among the strongest like Homelander. While it’s still uncertain, she may even surpass his power level. Marie’s blood manipulation ability was always formidable, but she truly masters it in the second season of The Boys spin-off. She not only overcomes personal limitations, but also learns to heal others – and even revive the dead. This unique skill makes her a valuable asset in combat, even beyond direct fighting.
I’m still reeling from everything Marie can do! It’s not just about healing people with her blood – we saw how easily she could hurt someone with it, like with Victoria Neuman. And it’s amazing to watch her actually fight using her blood – she’s seriously strong and tough. She might not be as overwhelmingly powerful as Homelander or Soldier Boy, but I honestly think her blood manipulation could give them a real run for their money. Plus, finding out she was also part of Project Odessa? It all makes sense now why she’s quickly becoming one of the most powerful people in the whole series!
1) Homelander

Homelander is currently the most powerful character in The Boys, even if other characters could potentially beat him with enough training and a bit of luck. The main characters are still struggling to find a way to defeat him, and for good reason. Because of the experiments Vought performed on him, Homelander’s powers are far greater than most other supes. He’s incredibly durable and possesses strength and speed that are almost unmatched—he’s even as fast as A-Train, as shown in the premiere of Season 5.
Homelander is incredibly difficult to defeat. If his immense strength doesn’t finish an opponent, his heat vision certainly will, making escape nearly impossible. He’s further protected by his control over both the U.S. government and Vought International, plus the fact that the most intelligent superpowered individual is on his side. While Marie’s unique abilities and Ryan’s growing powers might pose a challenge, even they aren’t guaranteed to succeed. Ultimately, Homelander’s biggest weakness is likely his own unpredictable nature.
