Production I.G’s Eden of the East is widely considered a standout original anime series. First airing in 2009 with 11 episodes, it proved popular enough to spawn movies and a light novel adaptation by Kenji Kamiyama. Recently, the series has expanded again with plans for a stage play. To keep fans informed, a new X (formerly Twitter) account and official website have been launched. The play is scheduled for April and May, and more information will be revealed soon.
The official image features the phrase: ‘Noblesse oblige. May you continue to be a savior—.’ hinting that the story of Seleçãoes isn’t finished. The announcement quickly spread online, with fans sharing their enthusiasm for the adaptation. Many also expressed a sense of nostalgia, remembering the series’ lasting impact on the anime world.
Eden of the East Director and Character Designer Share Celebratory Messages

The official website for the stage play also shared messages from the director, original creator Kenji Kamiyama, and character designer Chica Umino. Kamiyama expressed his excitement, saying that Eden of the East was a story about a boy and a girl who came of age during a changing time in Japan. He’s incredibly grateful and moved that their story is being reimagined on stage for a new generation, bridging the past and present.
I was listening to Umino talk about Eden of the East, and it’s clear they’re a huge fan! They were really curious about how the story would translate to the stage when they heard about the adaptation. They seemed genuinely thrilled that a stage version is happening, and excited to see Takizawa and Saki’s adventures brought to life again.
Kamiyama shared the official announcement on X (formerly Twitter) to help more people see it. He’s a famous director who has worked on popular anime like Ghost in the Shell, Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit, and Ultraman, among others. Chica Umino is also a well-known creator, best recognized for her work on March Comes in Like a Lion and Honey & Clover.
What Is Eden of the East About?

This acclaimed science fiction mystery begins after a strange attack on Japan – missile strikes that, incredibly, didn’t injure anyone. The event, dubbed “Careless Monday,” quickly faded from public memory. Three months later, Saki Morimi, a college graduate, is traveling in America when she meets a peculiar man named Akira Takizawa, who she finds naked outside the White House.
The man suffers from amnesia, but insists he’s a terrorist and possesses a phone loaded with a huge sum of digital money—8.2 billion yen. Despite his odd behavior, Saki becomes friends with him, unknowingly getting drawn into a deadly game as the surprising link between him and the organization known as Careless Monday is revealed.
