The show Young Sheldon introduced Paige Swanson, a fellow gifted child who Sheldon Cooper knew growing up. While Paige saw Sheldon as a friend, he initially viewed her as competition. Over time, as Sheldon learned about her challenging home life, his perspective shifted. Paige’s story took a different path than his own, and she last appeared in season six when she ran away from home with Sheldon’s sister, Missy.
I was reading a discussion on Reddit the other day, and people were wondering what ever happened to Paige from Young Sheldon. It’s strange – she just disappeared! She was never mentioned on The Big Bang Theory, and after Missy got in trouble and wasn’t allowed to see her anymore, we never saw Paige again. It got me thinking, and people were sharing all sorts of theories about what might have happened to her.
What Happened to Paige Swanson After Young Sheldon?

Someone pointed out that Paige Swanson was portrayed as more intelligent than Sheldon, but he never referenced her again, despite seeing her as a competitor. This sparked curiosity about what became of her, leading to various fan theories – some sad, others hopeful. A particularly well-received idea from one Reddit user suggested she initially struggled and took a break, but eventually returned to education to become a therapist, helping girls facing similar challenges.
It’s understandable how Paige’s life unfolded, similar to Sheldon Cooper’s early opportunities. She had a chance at higher education but ultimately didn’t follow through, as shown on the show. Her parents’ divorce created emotional difficulties, leading her to act out and struggle with depression. She started shoplifting, neglected her studies, and her grades suffered. Eventually, she dropped out of college and began to party more frequently. Her attempts to connect with older college students were unwise for someone so young and signaled she was making risky choices.
It’s easy to see why Missy’s parents stopped her from seeing Paige, even after Missy ran away and contacted her. It’s wonderful to see Paige thriving and succeeding – she deserves it. Considering Paige grew up with a high IQ, ADHD, and a difficult family situation, she’s uniquely positioned to help others once she’s navigated her own challenges.
Many people have sadly speculated that she never truly recovered from difficult times. One Reddit user suggested her life became chaotic after her parents’ divorce, leading to a decline in her studies, negative friendships, and a job that simply allowed her to cover expenses and socialize. This user believed she succumbed to depression and abandoned her academic goals. This was a particularly disheartening theory, with others suggesting she ended up in a similarly unfulfilling job, like working at a bowling alley. However, some felt this was too pessimistic and hoped she would eventually turn her life around.
A popular fan theory suggests that Paige, from Young Sheldon, is the friend Missy attends a wedding for in an episode of The Big Bang Theory. The idea is that Paige is thriving and happy, but Sheldon wouldn’t acknowledge her success unless it somehow reflected on his own achievements as a physicist. This would provide a satisfying conclusion to Paige’s story after the events of Young Sheldon.
