Let me tell you, 2026 is shaping up to be massive for entertainment. We’re especially looking at superhero fans, with Avengers: Doomsday hitting theaters this December. Everyone’s buzzing that this one will be the biggest Avengers film yet – and that’s saying something after the epic scale of Infinity War and Endgame. Interestingly, with the second season of the fantastic Beef just around the corner, a lot of people are remembering Steven Yeun, the star of that show, who was also almost part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s a small world, and a great reminder of all the talent out there!
Steven Yeun, best known for his role as Glenn Rhee in The Walking Dead, recently impressed – and sometimes shocked – viewers with his performance as Danny in Beef. News has resurfaced that he was almost cast as Sentry in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie, leading fans to wonder if he might join the Marvel Cinematic Universe or even the X-Men. Director Jake Schreier, who worked with Yeun on both Beef and Thunderbolts (and is also directing an upcoming X-Men film), says he’s always looking for opportunities to cast Yeun, but there are no current plans to do so.
Yeun Would Be an Incredible Addition to the MCU

Steven Yeun recently shared his thoughts on working with director Jake Schreier and confirmed he’d seen Thunderbolts. He praised Schreier as a fantastic director and left the door open to future Marvel projects, saying, “I’m around.” Yeun didn’t end up playing the role of Sentry due to scheduling issues that arose after the 2023 Hollywood strikes, with Lewis Pullman ultimately cast in the part. Given that Yeun’s departure from the MCU was on good terms, and considering Schreier’s involvement with the future of the X-Men within the Marvel universe, there’s a good chance he could return to the franchise.
Regarding the future of the X-Men, Schrier explained they’re striving for a reboot that feels innovative and original. Kevin Feige has particularly emphasized exploring the full potential of the X-Men universe, which is incredibly vast. Schrier has spent the last year revisiting classic X-Men stories, including the entire run by Chris Claremont and the acclaimed work of Grant Morrison, to get a strong grasp of the source material.
