Season 5 of The Boys will reveal what happens to Homelander, and some fans believe he won’t be killed off – but instead will face an even more terrible outcome. Throughout the series, Homelander has been the main villain, and despite his recent power play in Season 4, it’s crucial that someone finally stops him. Warning: Spoilers follow for the first two episodes of Season 5.
Homelander is the most powerful character in The Boys, surpassing even the strongest heroes and villains. It’s doubtful Butcher’s virus can defeat him, especially since it didn’t kill Soldier Boy. This has led fans to speculate whether Homelander will even die this season, with some Reddit users theorizing he’ll somehow survive even a major defeat.
As a huge fan of ‘The Boys’, I’ve been rewatching Season 5, and it’s wild how often the show hints that Homelander isn’t as invincible as he seems! One Redditor pointed out something I hadn’t fully noticed: before Homelander kills A-Train, A-Train actually challenges him, basically asking what he is without his powers. And then, when Soldier Boy threatens to take him out for good, Homelander’s response – saying Soldier Boy could ‘fry the V’ right out of his blood – feels like a slip-up, like he’s admitting there’s a way to actually hurt him. It’s subtle, but it definitely adds another layer to his character.
Small clues in the show suggest that Homelander could start losing his powers, which are the source of his control. If this happens, he wouldn’t necessarily have to die at the end of the series—it might actually be a more satisfying outcome if he didn’t.
How Homelander Could Be Defeated Without Dying in The Boys

There’s a possibility Homelander could lose his powers in The Boys, and Soldier Boy might be the one to do it. While it’s uncertain if Soldier Boy’s blast would completely strip Homelander of his abilities, it has already neutralized Queen Maeve’s and temporarily affected Kimiko. Another factor is Marie Moreau from Gen V. The events of Gen V will likely influence The Boys, and after Marie’s power increase in Season 2, she might be able to remove Compound V from a supe’s system – something she’s already demonstrated by curing Cate and Polarity, so it’s a plausible scenario.
Even without powers, Homelander would likely still have supporters, and Kimiko demonstrates that surviving a second dose of Compound V is possible. Therefore, simply removing his powers isn’t a complete solution to the problem. He might lose his powers before he dies, or he could end up in a long-term frozen state, similar to Soldier Boy. This idea is being discussed by fans on Reddit, and Season 5 of The Boys hints at it by showing Homelander entering Soldier Boy’s cryo-chamber.
Death Isn’t the Most Fitting End for Homelander in The Boys Season 5

In the The Boys comics, Homelander dies, and Season 5 briefly hints at this fate. However, the show could choose a different path for his ending. While keeping him alive – even if he’s powerless or frozen – is a gamble that could lead to his return, it might be a more satisfying conclusion to see him stripped of his powers and status. Homelander would likely see living as an ordinary person – something he despises – as a worse fate than death. Therefore, keeping him alive but powerless could be the ultimate punishment. We’ll find out if Season 5 of The Boys explores this possibility.
