I stopped completely, which I’m capable of doing. I tend to get really into things, so I always need to be aware of my habits. It’s not necessarily what you do, but how and why you do it. The motivation behind your actions is what matters. For example, wanting to have a lot of sex is fine, but you need to understand why you want that.

Let me tell you, the eighties were a really tough time for me. I got caught up in a dangerous cycle with cocaine, to the point where it was impacting my finances ā it was shockingly expensive, even showing up in some of my movie budgets. I remember countless nights desperately pleading with a higher power to help me stop, because Iād be facing work commitments just an hour later. And then, ironically, each afternoon I’d convince myself it wasnāt that bad, and fall right back into it. It was a truly awful pattern I struggled to break.
