Since James Gunn and Peter Safran began leading DC in 2022, they’ve been carefully rebuilding the brand by releasing projects one at a time. They started with the streaming series Creature Commandos, then followed it up with Season 2 of Peacemaker. Superman then came to theaters in July 2025. Until then, DC Studios had never released two projects in the same month.
For the first time since James Gunn took the helm at DC Studios, two DC films will be released in the same month: June 2026. Supergirl hits theaters on June 26th, and Batman: Knightfall Part 1 will premiere at the Annecy Film Festival (June 21-27) that same week.
This pattern of releasing multiple projects in one month began after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the DC Universe in November 2022. Before their leadership, DC had only done this twice. In October 2022, both the live-action film Black Adam starring Dwayne Johnson and the animated movie Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons were released within a few days of each other. Then, in March 2023, Shazam! Fury of the Gods came out in theaters, followed shortly by the animated film Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham.
The new season of Supergirl will see Kara embarking on a spacefaring journey to safeguard a young girl named Ruthye, all while grappling with the destruction of her home world. Meanwhile, Batman: Knightfall centers on Bane unleashing Batman’s enemies from Arkham Asylum, driving the hero to his absolute limits. But that’s not all – this year promises to be massive for DC, with several highly anticipated movies and shows planned after these releases.
Every DC Project Releasing In 2026 After Supergirl & Knightfall
Lanterns

The first DC Universe series coming to HBO Max this year, Lanterns, boasts a powerful creative team. It’s being developed by Chris Mundy, who ran the show Ozark, Damon Lindelof, a producer on Lost, and comic book writer Tom King, known for his work on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Okay, so the cast is really strong here. Kyle Chandler is perfect as Hal Jordan, a Green Lantern who’s starting to think about hanging up his power ring. He’s tasked with training a new recruit, John Stewart, played brilliantly by Aaron Pierre. The story kicks off with a murder investigation in the middle of nowhere, Nebraska, but trust me, this isn’t just some small-town crime – there’s a huge cosmic element at play. We even get Nathan Fillion back as Guy Gardner, which is a nice touch. And Kelly Macdonald is fantastic as the local sheriff who clearly cannot stand Hal – their dynamic is a highlight. It’s a compelling setup, and I’m already hooked.
This new take on the Green Lanterns feels distinct from previous adaptations. The series aims for a realistic and relatable approach, and the trailers suggest that’s exactly what we’ll get. What’s exciting about Lanterns is that it begins with a down-to-earth feel, but has the potential to expand into a much larger, cosmic story that will surprise viewers. The powers showcased in the trailers haven’t been overly extravagant so far, so it will be fascinating to see how the show develops them when it finally airs.
Clayface

The DCU’s upcoming Clayface movie will be its first film focused on a villain and its first horror movie, making it a uniquely bold project for 2026. It’s directed by James Watkins, known for his work on the scary films The Woman in Black and Speak No Evil.
Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen, a promising actor whose face is badly injured by a criminal. Desperate for a solution, he seeks help from Dr. Caitlin Bates (Naomi Ackie), a scientist conducting a risky, experimental treatment. Unfortunately, the procedure doesn’t go as planned. Ackie’s character is portrayed as a compelling but reckless figure, similar to Elizabeth Holmes, who prioritizes ambition over ethics.
I’m so thrilled filming finished in Liverpool last October! It was originally meant to come out in September, but Warner Bros. moved the release date to October 23rd, which I think is perfect timing with Halloween coming up. What really has me excited, though, is the story itself – it’s so captivating! And the fact that it’s an R-rated superhero movie with a really intense, body horror vibe? We don’t get to see that very often in theaters, and I can’t wait!
Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2

The first season of Batman: Caped Crusader quickly became the most-watched show on Prime Video when it launched in August 2024, and a second season has been in the works ever since. Created by Bruce Timm and executive produced by J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, the series reimagines Batman (with Hamish Linklater providing the voice) in a 1940s, film-noir version of Gotham City. Many fans see it as a modern continuation of the classic Batman: The Animated Series.
I’m so excited that Amazon saved the show after HBO Max cancelled it! Director Linklater has said season two is currently being filmed, and he’s hoping it will be released around 2026, though there’s no firm date yet – it seems like DC shows are always a little unpredictable with release dates. What I’m really looking forward to is the new take on the Joker. One of the co-showrunners, James Tucker, says this version will be totally different from anything we’ve seen before, and with the Joker already playing a part in the story, I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
My Adventures with Superman Season 3

The animated series My Adventures with Superman, featuring Jack Quaid as Clark Kent, will return for a third season with more characters. Announced in June 2024, the season finished post-production in August 2025. Originally planned for release later that year, it’s now expected to premiere in 2026 after not appearing in HBO Max’s December 2025 schedule.
Season 3 introduces Kiana Madeira as Kara Zor-El, expanding the main team to include her alongside Clark, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen. This is the first time the show will feature a four-person core group. Max Mittelman returns as Lex Luthor, now sporting a completely bald head, and we’ll see Hank Henshaw begin his transformation into Cyborg Superman this season. Superboy will also be making his debut in the series.
Since it first aired on Adult Swim in July 2023, the show has been a yearly event, with new episodes becoming available on HBO Max soon after they air. A spin-off called My Adventures with Green Lantern is also being created. Many fans agree that the team-up in this season of My Adventures with Superman is the most anticipated part. With so many movies and shows coming out, DC fans have a lot to look forward to this year.
