Bank Teller’s Daring Cash Caper: Nearly $16K Vanishes

A former bank teller, a carnival of arithmetic and a sly lover of mischief, has confessed to pilfering a plump purse of cash from the snug sanctuary of her own drawer.

Miss Karr, once a resident of Western Bank’s orderly ledgers, was nabbed by a vigilant manager last year when the drawer whispered of a shortage, ABC 7 News reporting with the precision of a poised parrot.

When pressed, Karr admitted that the dalliance with cash had ripened into a discreet habit of grazing the drawer’s bounty-an appetite as theatrical as it was fiscal.

Court documents reveal the errant romance began in May 2025, and she masked the mischief with force balancing, a euphemism for fiddling with figures until the ledger sang a false lullaby.

“She made it appear her cash drawer was in balance when, in fact, it was not due to the money she had embezzled.”

Force balancing, dear reader, is a fraudulent pas de deux in which a bank employee tinkers with records to make the cash drawer kiss the system totals at day’s end, even as the true tale tiptoes over or under.

Earlier this week, Karr pleaded guilty to theft, embezzlement or misapplication by a bank officer or employee for stealing nearly $16,000 in cash from Western Bank. She had already paid $15,773.77 in restitution.

Karr now faces up to 12 months behind bars and a fine of up to $100,000-a quaintly stern price for a number-juggling performance.

Western Bank is a Texas-based community bank with about $838 million in assets, according to the Federal Reserve-a respectable sum that would elicit a nod from any ledger-obsessed gentleman or lady.
