Horror movies often deliver incredibly satisfying final battles, like Ripley’s fight against the Alien Queen in Aliens or the terrifying climax of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. After slowly building suspense, these moments where the survivor finally faces the killer and takes charge create unforgettable scenes. A recent example, featuring two characters with a decades-long feud, just had its epic showdown on Netflix.
On April 13th, the last movie in the recent Halloween trilogy, Halloween Ends, became available on Netflix. This film concludes the story started by director David Gordon Green and producer Blumhouse, and it’s Jamie Lee Curtis’s final performance as Laurie Strode. The movie picks up four years after Halloween Kills, introducing a new character, Corey Cunningham, who becomes connected to a vulnerable Michael Myers. Together, they unleash more terror on Haddonfield, leading to a violent and definitive confrontation between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers.
Halloween Ends’ Final Showdown Between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode Was 40 Years in the Making
The decades-long conflict between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode is legendary in the horror genre, beginning with the original 1978 film. After Laurie survived his initial attack and they clashed repeatedly over the years, their story reached a brutal climax in Halloween Ends. This intense and bloody kitchen fight was intended as a final, definitive showdown, marking the last time Jamie Lee Curtis would play Laurie Strode.
Whether or not Halloween Ends delivered on the hype after 40 years of the Halloween rivalry is really a matter of opinion. The film is proving quite divisive among fans, and its scores reflect that: it received a 40% rating from critics and 57% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. While better received than Halloween Kills, it doesn’t measure up to the 2018 Halloween film and lands squarely in the middle of the franchise overall. Some viewers were disappointed that Michael Myers seemed less powerful than usual, and that the story shifted focus away from him to a new character, exploring the idea of evil being transferred. However, the film does offer a smart resolution to the series’ long-running theme of ending evil – though we won’t reveal how!
What’s New on Netflix?
This April, Netflix added the horror film Halloween Ends to its selection of movies and shows. The streaming service has been adding a lot of content this month, including titles like American Gangster, The Wiz, Beast, IF, and the 2022 Scream movie. Also popular right now is Netflix’s new shark thriller, Thrash, which is currently the most-watched movie worldwide on the platform.
