The creators of Stranger Things, known as the Duffer Brothers, are expanding their work with Netflix, producing several new shows. Their first production, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, has already become very popular. Later this month, they’ll release Tales from ’85, a spin-off series connected to Stranger Things. Their next project, The Boroughs, is a highly anticipated sci-fi series featuring a cast of well-known actors.
The trailer for The Boroughs is here, and it strongly reminds many viewers of Stranger Things. Online reactions suggest the creators, the Duffer Brothers, might find it hard to create something new that isn’t compared to their biggest hit.
The Boroughs Trailer Reveals Netflix’s Next Duffer Brothers Series
The Boroughs is set in what looks like a perfect retirement community, but beneath the surface, a group of unexpected heroes must team up to prevent a strange danger from taking the one thing residents can’t get back: their time.
Based on the initial description, many viewers might think The Boroughs is similar to Stranger Things, but with an older cast instead of teenagers. It’s already been difficult for audiences to understand that the Duffer Brothers are only executive producers, not the main creators or showrunners, so this trailer will likely cause even more confusion about the show.
The Boroughs Cast & Crew Explained

Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews are the creators of The Boroughs, and they wrote the first and last episodes of the series. The Duffer Brothers return as executive producers, joined by Addiss, Matthews, director Ben Taylor, and Hiliary Leavitt.
The strongest aspect of The Boroughs is its impressive cast. It features Bill Pullman (known from Twister and Independence Day), Geena Davis (Beetlejuice, Last Kiss Goodnight), Clarke Peters (The Wire), Alfred Molina (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Denis O’Hare (True Blood, American Horror Story), Jena Malone (Sucker Punch, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Carlos Miranda (Station 19), and Alice Kremelberg (Quantum Leap). The series also includes appearances by Rafael Casal (Loki), Ed Begley Jr. (Young Sheldon), Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle), Eric Edelstein (Shameless), Dee Wallace (E.T.), Mousa Hussein Kraish (American Gods), and Karan Soni (Deadpool).
All eight episodes of The Boroughs will be available to stream on Netflix starting May 21st. Join the discussion with other fans on the ComicBook Forum!
