Francis Lawrence will direct the new film, based on a script by Billy Ray. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force will produce, with Cameron MacConomy serving as executive producer. The previous five films in the series have earned over $3.3 billion worldwide.

Ralph Fiennes acknowledged the challenge of taking over the role of President Snow after Donald Sutherland’s passing, saying it’s impossible to replicate what Sutherland brought to the part. He’ll be playing a younger version of the character and is both challenged and excited by the opportunity. Fiennes intends to honor the complex psychology Sutherland established, rather than attempting an imitation.

Suzanne Collins’ new book, Sunrise on the Reaping, quickly became a bestseller, selling 1.5 million copies in its first week across the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In the U.S. alone, 1.2 million copies were sold, which is double the first-week sales of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and triple the sales of Mockingjay.

The movie version of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to come out on November 20, 2026.
