Road to Vostok Sells About 140,000 Copies, Funds “Entire Development Roadmap”

Antti, the creator of Road to Vostok, recently wrote a message to thank new players for checking out the game and to share what’s coming up in the next few weeks.

The solo developer of a successful new game recently shared on Steam that over 140,000 copies have been sold. They expressed gratitude to players and noted the launch has generated enough revenue – without any marketing – to fund the game’s planned future development.

The news is somewhat mixed. While Antti is reviewing player feedback to improve the game, fixing the launch crashes will take about a week. The development team needs a little time to rest and recharge before they can release the update.

I expect to finish up the first hotfix in about a week, once I’ve reviewed all the bug reports. I’ve already categorized and prioritized the bugs, and I’ve been watching early access gameplay, so I have a clear plan for what needs to be fixed.

Considering this game is largely the work of one person, we expect developing it to be as challenging as the difficult experience players have with Road to Vostok. Luckily, the developer is planning to take a much-needed break – their first in four years – before beginning work on Build 2, which will significantly improve the AI and add other major features.

Look, I’m totally okay with the developer taking their time. Yeah, waiting for Road to Vostok to finally launch is a bit frustrating, but I’d rather they polish it and get it right. It’s good to see they’re not rushing things, honestly.
