Coronation Street stars Alison King and Vicky Myers tease “difficult” start to married life for Carla and Lisa

Get ready to celebrate! Coronation Street will feature its first-ever wedding between two women next week. After years of anticipation, the couple will finally tie the knot on screen.

In 2011, Sian Powers left Sophie Webster heartbroken at their wedding. Then, eight years later, tragedy struck when Rana Habeeb was killed in a factory collapse just before she could marry Kate Connor.

Swarla and their partner were relieved to make it to the reception, despite a flooded venue. Luckily, Lisa’s quick thinking saved the day, and the ceremony was held in the bar of the Chariot Square Hotel.

Oh, and there’s a murder.

As hinted at in the February episode showing a glimpse into the future, Lisa’s daughter Betsy will discover the body of a neighbor that night. Actress Myers has said this will be a difficult challenge for Lisa and her partner, happening just as they’re starting a new chapter in their lives.

She explained that people assumed the scream was just a fox and continued enjoying the fireworks, leading to a peaceful ending.

The couple is unaware of what’s happening, which makes for a compelling beginning to their story. It also presents an immediate challenge to their new marriage, as Betsy discovered the body, leaving them with a difficult situation to navigate right from the start.

After everything this family has experienced, they’ve become much better at working together and handling challenges as a unit.

King chuckled, saying he was relieved the drama didn’t involve him or disrupt the wedding. He was happy everything worked out and the couple had a wonderful day.

It’s been a rough year for this couple, and they deserve some good news. Lisa’s wife, Becky (played by Amy Cudden), unexpectedly reappeared after years in witness protection. However, things quickly turned dramatic when Becky drugged Carla, held her captive, and tried to run away to Spain with her family.

Myers hopes that this marriage will be very different to Swain’s first.

She explained that a combination of factors were at play – her age, her career, her life experiences, and even the unexpected return of her late ex-wife.

She’s determined to make it happen. It’s more than just completing a task, though – she wants to marry the woman she loves deeply, the one who feels like her true home.

This relationship is completely different from her past one. It’s not just about the wedding; she’s excited to build a life and a marriage with him, and she can’t wait to begin that journey.

King is pleased Carla’s wedding is a more relaxed event. He explains that she especially enjoyed the surprise reception at Underworld, feeling loved by all her employees despite her often stern demeanor. Being included and feeling like part of the team is important to Carla, as she’s always felt excluded from the Connor family.

She was often the target of jokes, so she really values belonging to a group. The people she works with at the factory are like family to her – it’s where she feels safe and secure.

Very aptly, the wedding is taking place during Lesbian Visibility Week.

Myers noted that this connection fosters empathy and progress, which is particularly important given the ongoing problem of homophobia and the recent trend of rights being rolled back after years of advancement.

We’re thrilled to support this couple, their family, and their dedication to each other by hosting their wedding on Coronation Street – it’s a historic and wonderful moment. While their sexual orientation is a part of who they are, it doesn’t define them, and they’re proud to be open about it. They’re showing important visibility by living their lives openly and confidently, without hiding their affection from the world.

“Their frequent presence on screen holds the power to prompt lasting change.”

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm and from 7am on ITVX.
