Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ romance isn’t all that it seems. 

Indeed, the hosts of the show “Live with Kelly and Mark” have disclosed some common misunderstandings regarding their almost 30-year long marriage.

In a special interview for TopMob News at the launch of their ESPN series, Running with the Wolves, Kelly made it clear that despite appearances, they don’t spend much time together in reality. They only seem to be inseparable because when people see them, it’s usually on television. In truth, they lead separate lives.

Although Mark and Kelly spend their day together, it may not be as much high-quality time as one might assume from a fan’s perspective.

In the mornings, we collaborate closely, but after that, our daily routines and personal lives diverge significantly. Our individual hobbies, beyond our morning talk show, actually differ greatly from one another.

Certainly, Kelly has confessed that she’s been immersed in Mahjong, a pastime she currently cherishes. On the other hand, Mark spends his leisure time golfing and, more recently, managing the affairs of Campobasso FC, a team he and Kelly acquired in 2022.

The couple, parents to adult children Michael Consuelos (age 28), Lola Consuelos (age 24), and Joaquin Consuelos (age 22), embark on their latest joint project called “Running With The Wolves,” premiering on ESPN and ESPN+ on July 29. However, this opportunity was a goal that Mark himself had been eagerly pursuing.

The Riverdale star mentioned that regardless of the project, one of them dives in headfirst, while the other provides support. Currently, it’s her turn to step up and reciprocate, as they often switch roles.

Kelly hinted that she had a surprise planned for their upcoming adventure, saying, “When it’s my turn, it’s going to be something spectacular.

When their workday is done, with cameras turned off, Kelly and Mark maintain a daily practice that allows them to spend some quality time together. This ritual guarantees a brief interaction each day.

“We do come together at night,” Kelly noted. “We have a nice dinner, a nice meal together.”

During a 2017 episode of Live! With Kelly, Kelly Ripa playfully criticized her husband Mark Consuelos for being rude after their private moments. She explained, “When we have special time together at home, he becomes short and irritated with me afterward, which I find strange.” However, she later clarified it was just a joke. Nevertheless, when he noticed the comment gained attention, Mark felt compelled to explain, saying, “I simply want to clarify that no one can be mean if they are asleep.” To which Kelly added, “Perhaps what I meant was not rude but rather completely uninterested and sound asleep.

The kids, Michael Consuelos, Lola Consuelos, and Joaquin Consuelos, are cautious when browsing through social media due to a specific reason. For instance, when Mark once announced he would manage the Instagram feed for his show Riverdale during an episode in 2019, Kelly commented, “Oooooooooooo. Daddy, I love when you take over.” This is just one example of why their mother, Kelly, feels confident that they have made efforts to remove any trace of themselves from social media. During the conversation, where Mark temporarily replaced the regular co-host and he and Kelly talked about the TV series titled “Scenes From a Marriage,” their unique approach to managing stress as a couple was revealed.

In Kelly’s words, she expressed that she found it hard to believe such conflicts would arise in the Consuelos household, as Mark would swiftly address any issues that arose. She imagined him saying something like, “Don’t worry, I can handle this. I know just what you need,” when his wife was upset or overwhelmed. Kelly went on to say that love and intimacy were key aspects of their relationship, but Mark corrected her by adding that not everything in their life was settled with those two things. However, Kelly playfully insisted that almost everything was.

In simple terms, Kelly finds it unpleasant to engage in sexual activities in the morning, as opposed to Mark who prefers it. During an interview on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast in July 2025, she expressed this sentiment. She also mentioned that she sets boundaries in their bedroom activities, stating that it shouldn’t always be Mark’s way, and that she prefers nighttime only. Fortunately, their early morning job often resolves this issue since it deters Mark from wanting morning time during the work week.

Mark responded with a playful and expressive comment when Kelly shared a picture wearing a rainbow sequin sweatshirt with the saying “More Glitter, Less Twitter”. The actor humorously inquired about the writing on her top, asking, “Darling, is that an ‘G’ or a ‘C’? I was just curious.

Reminding herself of Joaquin’s 18th birthday celebration triggered memories of giving birth to him. When Mark posted an Instagram tribute in February 2021 saying, “Our little guy has grown up,” Kelly replied, “I must admit, it was quite enjoyable creating him.”

Mark also mentioned that Joaquin was conceived during a trip to Montreal, which seems to have been quite the global adventure.

In a September 2022 episode of “Watch What Happens Live,” hosted by my good friend Andy Cohen, he challenged me with a game called “Have You Ever…” and the answer was indeed affirmative in several instances. We’ve got stories from public bathrooms, during our days on “All My Children,” on boats, and even in front of Andy’s house! However, as Andy suggested based on your guesses from their Instagram PDA, there are still a few places where we haven’t shared that special moment. Among them are a car en route to an event, a department store dressing room, and the set of our daytime talk show.

As an ardent admirer of Kelly, I must say her preferred position is the one that highlights her striking features most. During the peak of the pandemic, when she was gracing the stage in NYC for her show and he was filming Riverdale in Vancouver, our intimate rituals were downright absurd, as we confessed on a March 2023 episode of her Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast.

And let me tell you, she was quite inventive! I grew so concerned about my looks during our video calls that I began propping up the computer on a ladder, enabling me to gaze at Mark from above and preventing him from witnessing the effects of gravity.

It seems that Kelly doesn’t typically mix professional and personal relationships. During a discussion about the romantic entanglements that led to Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes leaving their positions as co-hosts on ABC’s GMA3, Kelly made a joke about her and Mark maintaining a professional distance now that he has joined her on the Live desk.

In April 2023, during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Kelly stated, “Mark and I have taken a vow of celibacy while we’ll be working together.” She continued, “I know how ABC doesn’t approve of TV partners getting involved romantically, so we promise, there will be no romantic involvements on the side.” In other words, they are committed to keeping their professional and personal lives separate.

After Joaquin left for college in 2021, the married couple found themselves accustomed to living in an empty house. As Kelly explained to TopMob News in June 2023, they had grown comfortable with roaming freely and leaving doors open at their leisure. However, when Lola returned from London, they once again needed to secure their home. Joaquin came back for his summer break, necessitating another lockdown.

He said, “Beware, Lola Consuelos, because this week is going to be quite unusual, isn’t it?” When Kelly asked why this week was special, Mark replied with a grin, “It is now.” They explained that the warning was due to Lola’s habit of entering their room without knocking.
