Martin Lawrence Reacts to Daughter, Eddie Murphy Son Welcoming Baby

Martin Lawrence is embracing his grandpa era.

Following the news that his son, Eric Murphy, and Martin Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin Lawrence, had a baby girl named Ari Skye, Eddie Murphy recently acknowledged his new grandfather status during a performance on his comedy tour.

Martin happily announced in an Instagram video shared by Loni Love on April 20th that he’s now a grandfather! He excitedly revealed that he and Eddie Murphy are both grandfathers to the same child.

Martin also noticed that Ari’s grandfathers were both comedians and actors. As Martin, 61, joked, “That baby is going to be hilarious.”

Oh my gosh, you guys, I was SO excited to hear the news! Loni – she’s amazing, seriously – shared a video and said they found out on the road that Jasmine and Eric are expecting! Martin was absolutely over the moon, and honestly, we ALL were! It was just the best news ever, I’m still buzzing about it!

She continued, saying, “Watch his face when he told everyone!” Then she shared, “Sending love to both families and a warm welcome to baby Ari Skye!”

Eddie revealed the exciting news about his blended family while at the American Film Institute awards gala, where he received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The couple recently welcomed a baby girl, Ari Skye, just a week or two ago, the 65-year-old shared with TopMob News on the red carpet.

Even though Eddie, an Emmy-winning actor, has ten children himself, he didn’t want to give advice to his son and daughter-in-law when they got married in 2025. He explained that he’d rather show them how to navigate marriage through his own actions.

He explained that people don’t usually listen to advice, especially from their parents. Instead, children learn by observing their parents’ actions and behavior – they do what they see, not what they’re told.

Eddie responded with a playful jab, ‘People don’t really listen to what you say. They watch your actions, so I don’t offer much advice.’

Martin, who has a 30-year-old daughter named Jasmin with his ex-wife Patricia Southall, and daughters Iyanna Lawrence, 25, and Amara Lawrence, 23, with ex-wife Shamicka Gibbs, has often spoken about how he and Eddie Murphy agree on how their children interact with each other.

During an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show last May, the Bad Boys actor explained that he and his ex-wife share a similar parenting style. They both want what’s best for their kids, giving them the freedom to make their own decisions and live their own lives without interference.
