King Charles III received a special Blue Peter badge – a green one – to honor his decades of work supporting nature and building a more sustainable world. The award was presented on Earth Day 2026.
The prestigious badge was awarded at Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland, and the ceremony was filmed for a special episode of the popular BBC show.
Blue Peter’s Joel Mawhinney presented the Green badge in recognition of the King’s commitment to environmental issues and his efforts through The King’s Foundation. The Foundation supports sustainable communities, teaches about the environment, promotes traditional skills, and encourages working with nature.
During his visit, The King met young people participating in programs run by The King’s Foundation – Growing Together, Cooking Together, and Food for the Future. He learned about their creative solutions for reducing food waste and protecting the environment. Some of the children’s designs and inventions will be placed in a time capsule, scheduled to be opened in a century.
The Blue Peter Green badge recognizes children and people who demonstrate a dedication to protecting nature and the environment.

As a big fan of Blue Peter, I’m really excited for their special episode! It’s airing on CBBC this Friday, May 1st, at 5pm, and if you miss it, it’ll be up on BBC iPlayer the same day. This one looks particularly good – they’ve got Steve Backshall from Deadly 60 joining in, and Abby’s been exploring some really fascinating, but dangerous, plants and fungi at Kew Gardens. Plus, they’re reviewing a poetry book called ‘Outside In: Nature Poems’ by Daniel Thompson in the Book Club – it sounds like a fantastic episode all around!
Sarah Muller, who leads program development for children ages 7 and up, explained that Blue Peter has always aimed to encourage kids to participate and feel they can positively impact the world. Presenting His Majesty with a Green Blue Peter badge on Earth Day really highlights this goal. The King’s long-standing dedication to environmental protection, and his charity The King’s Foundation’s work in helping young people live more sustainably, are a perfect fit with the values Blue Peter has promoted for many years.
Jacqueline Farrell from The King’s Foundation said it was fantastic to see students receive their Blue Peter Green Badges at Dumfries House, especially with The King present. The Food for the Future program, which has been running for over five years, helps students gain confidence and become actively involved in reducing food waste and encouraging sustainability in their local areas.
We’re thrilled that 100% of students who participated in our program reported a greater understanding of food waste, its impact on the environment, and how they can make a difference. This is fantastic news for our education team at The King’s Foundation, and we thank Blue Peter for making this opportunity possible.
The special episode of Blue Peter will be broadcast on CBBC and BBC iPlayer on Friday 1 May at 5pm.
