Although the five-year-old PlayStation 5 outsold the Nintendo Switch 2 in January and February, it wasn’t able to continue that streak in March.
Recent sales figures from Circana show that while Sony’s PlayStation 5 saw a 3% increase in sales compared to last year, Nintendo’s Switch sold more units and generated more revenue during the period from March 1st to April 4th.
On April 2nd, the price of all PS5 consoles increased. Before the price went up, demand surged, reaching its highest point since 2026. Experts predict the rest of the year will be challenging for PS5 sales unless there are significant discounts or highly anticipated game releases.
Pokémon Pokopia likely boosted sales of the Switch 2, though its fifth-place ranking isn’t that impressive. This is because Nintendo doesn’t publicly release digital sales figures, making it hard to get a complete picture.
MLB The Show 26 and Marathon Kill It
Beyond hardware, two of Sony’s games – MLB The Show 26 and Marathon – were huge successes.
The game achieved the second-best sales figures in the series’ history, surpassed only by MLB The Show 21. This is even more impressive considering sales numbers from Nintendo and Xbox weren’t included in the total.
Currently, this game is the second best-selling of the year, trailing only Resident Evil Requiem. Resident Evil Requiem has also become a top-five best-selling Resident Evil game in the US based on copies sold.
So far in 2026, the game Marathon has become the sixth best-selling title, a surprisingly strong performance considering initial predictions from Alinea Analytics were quite low.
The game sold well across all platforms. It was the sixth best-selling title on PlayStation 5, third on Xbox, and the most popular on PC. These numbers generally align with earlier predictions, though it’s likely that PlayStation 5 is seeing significantly higher overall sales compared to Xbox.
