I’m so excited – Season 3 of The Terror is finally heading to AMC+, and I got a sneak peek at the first five minutes! This show was seriously one of the best horror series of the last decade. The first season was a chilling take on the true story of Captain Sir John Franklin’s lost Arctic expedition back in the 1840s. Then, Season 2, called Infamy, shifted gears to a really unsettling story about a Japanese American internment camp during WWII. What made both seasons so good was that they weren’t just scary – they featured terrifying supernatural creatures. The first had this huge, frightening spirit bear called the Tuunbaq, and the second brought in creatures from Japanese folklore known as bakemono.
The third season, called Devil in Silver, promises to continue the show’s unsettling tone. This installment features Dan Stevens (known from The Guest and Legion) as Pepper, a man wrongly sent to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital. While there, he discovers disturbing secrets, battles other patients, and realizes a true horror hides within the hospital’s walls. The season is adapted from the novel by Victor LaValle, who also writes and executive produces, alongside Chris Cantwell (co-creator of AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire). The first scene introduces New Hyde and hints that things aren’t what they appear to be – you can watch it below.
Devil In Silver Looks Like A Great Continuation Of The Terror

Though not immediately shown, a glimpse of Stevens’ Pepper foreshadows the truly frightening experience the series delivers. The story centers around two New Hyde employees who discover a patient has died in a horrifically violent way – all that’s visible are blood-soaked sheets, but the body underneath is deeply disturbing. They’re tasked with removing him, but his limbs are stiff and frozen, forcing them to break his bones just to get him through the doorway. It’s a graphic and unsettling scene that won’t appeal to everyone.
The situation is already disturbing, but hints suggest there’s more to the story. The body shows signs that something unnatural might be happening, and some believe the patient didn’t cause this to himself – leading to the question of who, or what, was responsible. Adding to the unsettling atmosphere, the camera focuses on the patient’s room number: 217. This is a reference to the most haunted room in Stephen King’s The Shining, a subtle clue that an evil presence lingers there. Considering the show’s title, could the force at play even be the devil?
The new season is appropriately creepy and feels true to the earlier installments. Even if you haven’t watched the previous seasons, you can still enjoy it – each season tells a complete, separate story. The Terror: Devil in Silver will debut on AMC+ and Shudder on May 7th.
