The popular Transformers movies directed by Michael Bay surprisingly included one of the most famous figures from the horror genre. The series began with a successful reboot in 2007, which became a huge hit for Paramount Pictures and launched a long-running film franchise.
The Transformers franchise includes four films directed by Michael Bay, a spin-off movie focused on Bumblebee, and a reboot aiming for a different style. While opinions on Bay’s Transformers movies are varied, the series has clearly gained a loyal following, ensuring its continued success.
With each new movie, the world of Transformers has grown, adding more to its history and introducing new characters. Although Bumblebee and Optimus Prime are usually the main heroes, a constantly changing cast of humans and robots has made the Transformers universe feel incredibly expansive.
The first Transformers movie, released in 2007, introduced Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky, who became the central human character in the series. Before he met Optimus Prime and the Autobots, Sam was dealing with trouble from a school bully named Trent DeMarco.
Trent started as a typical school bully, picking on Sam. But he unexpectedly became important to the Transformers universe when he had a surprising encounter with horror legend Jason Voorhees.
Jason Voorhees Is In The Same Universe As Transformers
In the late 2000s, when remakes were popular, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes studio revisited the classic slasher series, Friday the 13th. The new film essentially restarted the story, bringing Jason Voorhees back to his original beginnings after previous installments had taken him in wild directions – even pitting him against Freddy Krueger and sending him into space. The franchise had reached a point where it seemed like there were no fresh ideas left.
The film initially received negative reviews, but over time it’s become a favorite among fans who consider it one of the most overlooked installments in the series. This Friday the 13th remake featured more graphic violence than previous films, and it also broadened the story by introducing a new main character, Trent, and further exploring the setting of Camp Crystal Lake.
Travis Van Winkle, who played Trent in Friday the 13th, also played a similar character in Transformers. The Friday the 13th version is essentially the same person, but with much more mature content. Trent is portrayed as a selfish and immoral character, even cheating on his girlfriend without feeling bad about it.
Although deleted footage shows his last name is Sutton, many fans can’t help but notice striking similarities to a character from the Transformers films. Given the direction the Transformers franchise took, the theory that Trent and this other character are the same person makes a lot of sense.
Trent Not Appearing In Future Transformers Movies Makes More Sense
Okay, so in the 2009 Friday the 13th remake, poor Trent doesn’t make it. He’s desperately trying to escape from the lodge and gets a little hope when a truck pulls up. But his relief quickly turns to terror – instead of a savior, it’s Jason who pops up behind him and, well, impales him on something in the truck bed. It’s a really brutal, quick kill, and honestly, a pretty iconic moment in the film.
The year Friday the 13th came out, the second Transformers movie, Revenge of the Fallen, was also released. Trent, who was in the first Transformers film, wasn’t in this sequel, or any of the later movies. This is likely because his character was killed by Jason in Friday the 13th.
It’s possible their falling out caused this, but the fact that he didn’t even make a brief appearance suggests the rift was significant.
A Jason/Transformers Crossover Would Have Been Bigger Than Freddy Vs. Jason
What makes this surprising team-up between the two series so exciting is the possibility it creates for fan speculation. Since Jason is an almost indestructible, immortal killer, imagining him going up against Optimus Prime and the other Transformers is a really compelling idea that fans are already buzzing about.
Given the huge popularity of the Transformers movies, a crossover like this would have almost certainly been a big hit. The 2003 film Freddy vs. Jason proved that a battle between horror icons could draw a large audience, and pitting Jason Voorhees against the Transformers would have been an epic showdown. It would have seamlessly integrated the horror character into the action-packed world of the Transformers franchise.
