Good news for fans of science fiction and The Expanse: the closed beta for Owlcat’s new action RPG, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, is now live! Starting April 22nd at 10 AM Eastern Time, selected players will have access to a preview of the game all the way until its full release in Spring 2027. I recently got a chance to play the beta early, so I can share my first impressions and give you an idea of what to expect.
The closed beta for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is now available on PC through Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. This beta lets you try out key parts of the game before it officially launches in Spring 2027. Owlcat will use feedback from players to improve the final version, so it’s a great opportunity to help shape the game. If you’re wondering how long the beta will take, what it includes, or how to join, I have all the information you need.
How to Get Access to the Closed Beta for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

Fans can get early access to the closed beta of The Expanse: Osiris Reborn by purchasing either The Collector’s Edition or Miller’s Pack. The beta starts on April 22nd and will run until the game officially launches in Spring 2027. Both of these special editions are still available for purchase on the game’s website if you’re interested in trying the sci-fi RPG before everyone else.
The Collector’s Edition is available for $289 and comes with lots of extras both in the game and in real life, like a spaceship model, an artbook, and unique in-game items. The Miller’s Pack costs $79.99 and includes a digital version of the game, extra digital content, and early access to the beta.
You can try out the closed beta for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn on PC, Xbox Series X|S (Xbox Series X is recommended for the best experience), or PlayStation 5. No matter which platform you plan to play the full game on, you’ll be able to access the beta early if you purchase a special edition.
How Long is the Closed Beta for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn?

The early access beta for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn includes a mission taking place on and around the Pinkwater station. It took me just over an hour to complete on my first playthrough, but you can spend more time exploring the station and completing optional tasks. During the mission, you’ll meet important characters, gather resources, and improve your equipment, all while experiencing a story with choices that impact how it unfolds, through exploration, combat, and conversations.
As a huge fan, I’m really excited about how much choice actually matters in this game! Because your decisions change the story and how things play out, the closed beta has a ton of replay value. If you want to really dive in and see how all your choices affect the narrative, and try out all the different character classes, I think you’ll easily get several hours of gameplay out of it. It’s not just a quick demo – it’s a chance to really explore!
All Character Options for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn Closed Beta

In the closed beta, players can select from four pre-made character options, which include:
- Belter Gunner (Female)
- Belter Hacker (Female)
- Earther Gunner (Male)
- Earther Hacker (Female)
Every character has a unique set of weapons and tools, so it’s a good idea to try out both character types to see how they play differently. You can also give orders to your companion, J, during battles.
Currently, the test version has limited options for customizing your character’s weapons and skills. When the game officially releases, it will include a new character background set on Mars, plus more ways to specialize and customize your character.
