Sara Cox is taking over from Scott Mills as the presenter of BBC Radio 2’s breakfast program, the BBC announced.
Cox expressed her excitement and gratitude about becoming the host of the station’s breakfast show, describing it as a dream come true and a return to where she started.
As a long-time listener, it was lovely to hear her say how much she’s enjoyed her seven years doing the teatime show – she called them the best of her career! She’s incredibly grateful to her listeners and is excited about the possibility of continuing the fun on a breakfast show. She promises all the great music and silliness we’ve come to expect, plus some amazing guests, and she’s really keen to get the nation going in the mornings with what sounds like a fantastic, upbeat show. I, for one, can’t wait!
Sara Cox currently hosts the Radio 2 show between 5 and 7 pm, a position she’s had since 2019. Radio 2 will announce who will take over the show in the future.

Helen Thomas, head of Radio 2, praised Sara Cox, saying listeners love her evening shows. Thomas is confident Cox, who has filled in before, will quickly connect with breakfast listeners and energize the nation each morning with her friendly and funny personality.
Gary Davies has been presenting the breakfast show ever since the BBC let Mills go last month. Mills was fired after accusations were made about his behavior.
After the news broke, police confirmed that Russell Brand was questioned in 2018 about accusations of serious sexual assault against a boy under 16. These allegations involved incidents reported to have happened between 1997 and 2000. The police started investigating in 2016, but closed the case in 2019 because they didn’t find enough evidence.
Following reports about the end of my contract with the BBC earlier this month (April 1st), there’s been a lot of speculation. I can confirm that a statement recently released by the Metropolitan Police concerns me.

Look, back in 2016, someone made a serious accusation against me – it was about something that allegedly happened a long time ago. I immediately cooperated fully with the police investigation when they contacted me in 2018. They built a case and sent it to the prosecutors, but the prosecutors decided there wasn’t enough solid evidence to move forward with charges. That’s basically what happened, and I’m glad it’s been clarified.
Look, this whole thing stems from something that happened almost 30 years ago, and the police actually closed their investigation seven years ago. Because of that, I’m really hoping everyone – the public and the media especially – can understand why I don’t want to talk about it anymore. I just want to move forward.
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has shown me kindness, especially my former coworkers and my wonderful listeners, whom I miss very much.
