ZA/UM continues to face ongoing issues related to its internal management and the creative direction of Zero Parades: For Dead Spies, stemming from problems that arose after the success of Disco Elysium.
The game aims to prove itself through gameplay, launching first on PC and then on PS5 later this year, and it’s clearly inspired by Disco Elysium. You can find more information on the PlayStation Blog, and a new trailer is available to watch.
You’ll take on the role of Hershel Wilk, codenamed Cascade – a retired spy pulled back into action for a critical mission. To succeed, he needs to reunite his old team, the ‘Whole Sick Crew,’ which consists of six skilled members, excluding himself.
The game will use a similar gameplay style and investigative approach as Disco Elysium, presented with an isometric viewpoint. The developers have also revealed details about the characters, including their backgrounds and images.
Karolina
You were the youngest of the original team, almost like a little sibling to everyone else. You trained K in everything she knows about stealth and investigation – from sneaking into places to conducting interrogations and much more. The last time you saw her, she was working undercover at a cutting-edge Dream Study, and she might still be there now.
Ramses
Ramses, the tech expert for the Whole Sick Crew, is a master of audio surveillance and analyzing recordings. He can infiltrate any system or secretly record in any location. He was also the most genuine friend you had in the group – someone you could truly relax and be yourself around. You often fondly remember sharing quiet moments with him, enjoying one of his carefully made cigarettes.
Tempo
Tempo isn’t just charismatic – he commands attention even when he’s not around. He’s a powerful figure in Portofira’s criminal world, able to acquire anything, whether through legitimate or illegal means. He recognized the potential of Luzian technology and culture early on, and it’s made him very wealthy. You’ll easily recognize him by his flamboyant way of talking and the Ouroboros Black cigarettes he constantly smokes.
Vespar
Vespar is one of Portofiro’s top police investigators, a member of the elite carabineros. He has strong connections with both the city’s officials and underworld informants, making him a great source of secret information. Whether he’s working or not, you can often find him at the Fogged Mirror bar – he seems to spend a lot of time there!
Eszti
Eszti was a tough, sharp-tongued, and highly skilled operative working undercover within the Portofiran government, acting as a contact for EMTERR – a powerful international bank that also gathered intelligence. She risked her own safety to alert you that the network had been breached, but when it was time to escape, you abandoned her and others to face the consequences alone.
Holocene
Holocene is our mysterious and brilliant codebreaker. He has a theory about everything – seriously, even that a secret spy agency is run by cats! He’s the one to call if you need a code deciphered, but don’t expect a typical conversation.
