New PS5 System Update Released for April 2026, Here’s What Changed

Sony has released a new system update for both the PS5 and PS5 Pro. The PS5 has already seen significant improvements this year, especially with the PS5 Pro receiving its PSSR 2 update, which greatly enhanced game visuals. While this latest update isn’t as large, it offers more improvements than many previous PS5 patches.

A new update is now available for PS5 consoles! Version 26.03-13.20.00 is a small update focused on improving messages and how easily you can use the system. It also includes new emojis you can use to react to messages – continuing Sony’s recent additions of emoji features to the PS5.

Here are the official patch notes for this PS5 console update if you want to see them for yourself:

  • We’ve added more emojis that you can use for message reactions.
  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.

We can expect bigger, more significant updates for the PS5 in the future. However, these major updates likely won’t arrive for several months. The February 2026 update was a large one, and Sony usually only releases a few of these substantial patches each year, spacing them out over time. So, if you’re hoping for another big PS5 update soon, it will probably be a while before one is available.

PS5 players have a lot to anticipate in the coming months! Housemarque’s new shooter, Saros, arrives next week, and Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled for release in September. Plus, there’s talk of a new PlayStation State of Play event happening in April or May, where Sony will likely share more details about upcoming PS5 games planned for 2026 and beyond.
