Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Bundles First Game Remaster in Japan, But Not the West

Last week, along with the announcement of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter’s release date, it was revealed that players in Japan will receive a free download code for Trails in the Sky FC, a remastered version of the original game.

Ever since that bonus was announced, fans in western countries have been hoping it would also apply to purchases made outside of Japan. However, it appears GungHo Online Entertainment, the publisher in western regions, doesn’t intend to offer the same incentive.

It’s probably not the company’s fault this decision was made. The series is originally published by Falcom in Japan, and we believe their process is separate from what their Western publishing partners do, except when coordinating global release dates.

GungHo has released an official statement to Gematsu to try and clear up any confusion about the situation.

We’ve heard that pre-ordering Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter in some areas may include a remastered version of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. However, GungHo Online Entertainment America isn’t handling those releases, and we don’t have any news about this pre-order bonus right now.

The pre-order bonus seems a bit strange to us. Just to clarify, you’re getting a remastered version of the very first Trails in the Sky game. It’s not the updated version, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, which came out last year and received great reviews.

It’s a little disappointing for dedicated Trails fans that the original Trails in the Sky isn’t on current gaming consoles. This makes us think this new remaster might be sold as a standalone game later on.
