A role-playing game originally released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013 is getting a fresh new version. It was taken off the 3DS store eight years ago, and now, 13 years after its first launch, players will be able to experience it again. This game was also once available on the PS Vita, but with both digital stores now closed, it became unavailable to buy. This remaster will bring the game back as a digital download, and this time it will be available worldwide – the original release was only in Japan.
FuRyu announced that a remastered version of the fantasy RPG Exstetra will be released on Steam this summer, with support for multiple languages. Currently, there’s no confirmed release date or information about versions for consoles, leaving console gamers waiting for news. The original game was previously available on Nintendo and PlayStation, but never on PC. It’s also unclear whether the original developer, Studio Saizensen, is working on the remaster, although FuRyu did publish the original game.
Exstetra is a Japanese role-playing game that never received an English translation or release outside of Japan. While it wasn’t a major success in its home country, critics generally liked it. The game was removed from sale because the license for its music expired and wasn’t renewed. It appears this only happened on the 3DS version, though. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter now, as both the 3DS and PS Vita digital stores are closed, making the game unavailable as of 2026.

Bringing back this older RPG is a bit of a test to see if people would like a new version. Remasters don’t cost much to create compared to entirely new games, and they’re usually profitable, making them a low-risk way to earn money.
There’s no new trailer available right now. Also, the developers haven’t yet explained what improvements have been made to justify calling this a remaster instead of a simple re-release.
