A new series called Keep Your Enemies Close is starting on ITV, and viewers are about to get their first look at its intriguing world.
Despite appearing like a charming, peaceful neighborhood, the residents of these six homes are actually competing for a prize of £250,000.
While everyone wants to be liked, sometimes you have to reveal personal or unpleasant details to achieve success.
But where exactly is The Neighbourhood located, if you ever fancy paying a visit?
Where is The Neighbourhood located?
To film The Neighbourhood, the production team completely revamped Darwin Lake Holiday Park, located in Matlock, Derbyshire.
It’s open to the public, and particularly popular with hikers, getaway weekends and weddings.
This location, right on the border of the Lake District, is ideal for filming. It’s surrounded by forest and offers plenty of room for production offices, as well as on-site staff and support teams.
The stone cottages were all constructed by the lakeside, spread across a 20-acre property.
As a total movie and TV buff, I always found it fascinating how they’d completely transform each house for the show. They didn’t just stick cameras in; they’d overhaul the gardens, and give every single room a brand new look with different furniture and decor. It was a full-on makeover!
Each home was painted a unique color, shown through its window shutters and doors, and identified with a name displayed on a sign by the front door.

What are the key spots of The Neighbourhood?
The Neighbourhood offers several important locations where residents can hang out, chat, and participate in activities.
The property is under constant surveillance with more than 200 cameras recording at all times. These include cameras in every room of every house, plus hidden cameras placed in key areas.
Ed Daggett, a development executive at Lifted Entertainment, explained that their new project is much larger in scope than Love Island. He said it’s more than double the size, describing it as ‘absolutely mammoth’.
Many of the security cameras are cleverly hidden in plain sight – built right into things like lampposts, street signs, and even the café’s decorations – to make them less noticeable.
Contestants are allowed to move around the area freely, which is especially helpful if they need a break from their living spaces.
These include:
- The Village Green
- The Town Square
- The Uppin Arms Pub
- Room With A Brew – the local café
- The Lake

The Village Green
The Village Green is an area perfect to stretch your legs and take on a challenge or two.
As a movie buff, I appreciate a good set piece, and this place has some great ones! They’ve built in a gym, which is awesome for staying in shape, and there’s this huge open area perfect for kicking around a football or just having some fun with friends. It’s like having a little recreation center right where you live.
It’ll also be used during particularly physical challenges – keep an eye out for Naughty Gnomes!
The Town Square
As a huge fan, I’m so excited about the Town Square! It’s really the heart of everything that’s going to happen. They’ve built this awesome raised platform where all the contestants will meet – it’s where Graham will give them tasks and lead all the important town discussions. It feels like where all the action will go down!
This is also where they’ll be informed of upcoming removals from the show.
All the houses face the town square, meaning anyone who likes to watch what’s happening can easily see it from their windows.
The village is full of artificial features, most famously a large, central tree that changes color to reflect the feelings of the people living in the houses.
I always love when movies show a little village bulletin board – it’s such a nice touch! It feels so real, like you’re actually in that community, getting the local scoop on everything happening, from upcoming events to important announcements. It really helps build the world, you know?

The Uppin Arms
The Uppin Arms is a conveniently located pub, right near the village green. It features a spacious, open-plan bar and outdoor benches, and is managed by someone from the local community.
There’s also a pool table and a darts board for them to play on as well.
The pub is a hotbed of activity where you can anticipate plenty of drama. Friendships blossom and fall apart as families relax with a drink after a busy day, or discuss their plans – sometimes involving difficult decisions about who to ask to leave their homes.
The team has a limit on how much alcohol people can drink, so the event will stay fairly tame and under control.
(There’s also a secret smoking area down the side of the pub, which will be away from cameras.)

Room With a Brew
Room With a Brew is a quaint little café for residents to grab a coffee and have a natter.
Everything on the menu has a cheeky nod to remind customers that nothing is to be trusted.
The cafe is offering themed drinks like the “Double Agent” Americano, “Liar’s Latte”, and a Cappuccino called “The Cover-Up”.
Could these be clues about what’s to come?
The Neighbourhood starts Friday 24 April at 9pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
