Helena Bonham-Carter won’t be joining the next season of HBO’s The White Lotus.
The actor joined the cast of the Emmy-winning show in January, but left the set in France after only a few days of filming.
This show follows the drama-filled week of guests at a luxurious five-star resort. Future seasons will expand the story to include two new locations: the White Lotus du Cap and the White Lotus Cannes.
The White Lotus follows a fresh set of guests and staff at a luxury hotel over one week, set against the backdrop of the Cannes Film Festival.
Mike White, the show’s creator, has said the new season will explore the idea of fame. He told W Magazine he got the inspiration while working on the reality show, Survivor 50.

He explained that it’s partially about celebrity and who holds the public’s focus, essentially who is seen as the more important person in a relationship, and how that dynamic shapes it.
Everyone has different needs when it comes to feeling loved. Some people are happy with the affection of a close partner, while others also crave connection and attention from people they don’t know well.
Notably, Helena Bonham Carter will not be returning for the show, as HBO has confirmed her role will be rewritten and given to a new actress.

As production began on Season 4 of The White Lotus, it quickly became clear that the character created by Mike White for Helena Bonham Carter wasn’t working as envisioned on set.
The part is being reimagined, with the script being revised and a new actor being sought. Everyone involved – HBO, the show’s creators, and Mike White – is disappointed that they won’t be collaborating with her on this project, but they greatly admire her talent and hope to find another opportunity to work together in the future.

Filming is continuing with a temporary cast while the team searches for a replacement actor, according to the publication.
The film will star Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz.
The film also stars Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, and Laura Smet.
The White Lotus seasons 1-3 are available on Sky Atlantic, NOW and HBO Max.
