A new movie based on the popular video game series The Legend of Zelda is coming to theaters in just over a year, and excitement is already growing, even though details are scarce. Wes Ball, known for directing The Maze Runner films and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will direct. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason will star as Link and Zelda. Columbia Pictures is keeping most of the details secret for now, but rumors suggest there might be more to the story than meets the eye.
Zelda: Twilight Princess Is The Blueprint, And Fans Are Excited
While the new Legend of Zelda game won’t be a direct remake of any existing title, it will feature an original story with familiar characters and the established world. Despite this, fans are still speculating about which previous game might have served as the biggest influence, given how many popular entries there are in the series.
We now have a clearer idea of which Legend of Zelda game inspired the upcoming movie, thanks to a recent Instagram post from the film’s director of photography, Gyula Pados. Pados shared a photo of a clapperboard featuring artwork from the movie, revealing Link with his Master Sword and shield in a recognizable outfit. Fans quickly noticed the similarities to Twilight Princess Link, with one Twitter user pointing out that while the movie version lacks a cape, the overall design is very close.
The movie’s costume will clearly take inspiration from Link’s look in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and will even include a cape. But beyond the outfit, what other elements from the game will this new film draw from?
This Would Be A Perfect Time To Put Twilight Princess On Switch 2
After the reveal, fans flooded Twitter with positive reactions to Link’s new design, expressing optimism for the upcoming The Legend of Zelda adaptation. One fan praised the creative take on Link’s cloak and hat, saying the design successfully blends elements from previous versions of the character. Another noted the sleeves suggest Link is wearing a green version of the Champion’s tunic, combining the look of Breath of the Wild Link with the classic hero’s tunic and hat.
While the artwork Pados shared is likely just temporary, it’s still great to see progress on The Legend of Zelda movie. This has led many to wonder if Nintendo might finally release The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Some believe Nintendo intentionally left it off the original Switch to prioritize a port for the new console, and we’ll likely find out if that’s true within the next year.
