10 Worst Games Released on PS3

The PlayStation 3, Sony’s third gaming console, launched in North America in 2007 and quickly gained a large collection of games – over 3,000 in total. With so many titles available, it’s not surprising that some were poorly received. We’ve compiled a list of the ten worst games released on the PS3, based on reviews from when they came out, how difficult and frustrating they were to play, and negative feedback from gamers.

1) The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is a prequel to the popular AMC television show, taking place in Georgia. It follows Merle and Daryl Dixon during the very beginning of the zombie outbreak, with the original actors, Michael Rooker and Norman Reedus, returning to play their roles. Sadly, the game didn’t receive good reviews when it came out, mainly because of its frustrating controls, weak story, and unimpressive graphics. With more time and effort, it had the potential to be great, and fans of the series would have likely enjoyed learning more about the Dixon brothers’ backstory. However, it felt rushed and ultimately didn’t live up to expectations.

2) Girl Fight

The game Girl Fight is exactly what it sounds like: a fighting game featuring only female characters. It was clearly designed to be sexually suggestive, aiming for a young male audience. However, the game suffered from poor quality and an overemphasis on the characters’ sexuality. Even if the suggestive content hadn’t been a problem, the gameplay itself was flawed – the artificial intelligence was weak, making it a frustrating experience, and the character designs weren’t visually appealing. Ultimately, these issues undermined the game’s core concept, leaving players wondering what the point of playing was.

3) G.I Joe: Rise of Cobra

For a long time, video games based on movies were known for being low quality. While things started to improve in the 2000s, some games still missed the mark. The G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra game for the PlayStation 3 is a prime example – it feels like a rushed attempt to make money, similar to the bad movie tie-ins of the past. While the Nintendo DS version isn’t terrible, the PS3 version is a boring action game with nothing new to offer. Players will find the enemies and situations repetitive and uninspired, having seen them done much better in other games.

4) Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire

Lots of Gundam games are fantastic, which isn’t surprising – who wouldn’t want to control a giant robot? However, Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire isn’t one of them, despite its success in Japan. It was a major disappointment in North America, receiving harsh reviews due to its generic feel, old-fashioned graphics, weak story, and poor voice acting. Numerous bugs also held back the gameplay, failing to meet expectations for a Gundam title, and ultimately made the game frustrating to play.

5) Quantum Theory

Released in 2010 for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Quantum Theory is a third-person shooter that unfortunately didn’t live up to its potential. While developed by the same team for both consoles, the PS3 version performed slightly better. However, it received consistently negative reviews. The game’s cover system is reminiscent of Gears of War, but feels like a weak imitation, making its design unoriginal. Quantum Theory had an interesting story, but poor execution turned players off, ultimately preventing a sequel from being made.

6) Damnation

Released in 2008 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, Damnation was a steampunk shooter with a promising premise. It imagined an alternate history where the American Civil War continued for decades, evolving into a steampunk-powered conflict. However, despite the interesting setting, the game didn’t live up to expectations. Reviews were overwhelmingly negative, criticizing the graphics, voice acting, sound design, and controls. Many reviewers found the shooting mechanics to be poor, and one critic even suggested the game’s title was accurate – it simply wasn’t enjoyable to play.

7) Amy

Released in 2012 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Amy is a survival horror game that relies heavily on stealth. The game follows Amy, a young girl with autism and supernatural powers, as she navigates a zombie apocalypse and evades a sinister organization, aided by a protective woman. Unfortunately, despite an interesting concept, Amy suffers from numerous issues—including glitches, poor controls, weak voice acting, and overall flawed design—making it a disappointing experience. While the PS3 version was marginally better, both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions received criticism for the same problems.

8) Magus

Released for the PS3 in 2014, Magus is an action role-playing game where the main character escapes imprisonment to uncover his past. He fights using god-like powers, but unfortunately, the game is widely considered to be very poor. Many gamers see Magus as the worst game on the PS3, citing its outdated graphics, strange dialogue, poor voice acting, and frustrating gameplay. It’s become infamous – so bad it’s almost enjoyable… but not quite. The name Magus is now shorthand for a truly terrible game; simply calling a game “Magus” is enough to warn some players to stay away.

9) Rambo: The Video Game

Based on the popular Rambo movies, Rambo: The Video Game lets players experience scenes from the first three films. While it had the potential to be a hit due to the established fanbase, the game was unfortunately a commercial and critical disappointment. The main issue was repetitive gameplay that quickly became tedious. Released in 2014, the graphics also appear outdated, and the game suffers from poor enemy AI, frequent bugs, and crashes. It’s a short game, too – most players can finish it in just a few hours.

10) Rogue Warrior

Bethesda Softworks is known for creating amazing games, but their 2009 release, Rogue Warrior, was a major misstep. Development was troubled – one team started the game, but it was scrapped and completely rebuilt by another. The final product wasn’t just a bad first-person shooter; it’s considered one of the worst ever made. It was plagued with bugs, had dull gameplay, and featured broken combat, poor graphics, and frustrating controls. Clearly rushed and unfinished, Rogue Warrior should never have been released – it’s a truly awful game and a low point for the PS3.
