12 Years Later, Major Shonen Jump Anime Shares Trailer for New Reboot

A popular anime series from Shonen Jump is getting a fresh reboot after 12 years, and a new trailer gives fans a first glimpse. Shonen Jump is currently seeing a shift, with some recent hit series concluding, while many older favorites are being revived through remakes, sequels, and other exciting projects.

Daisuke Ashihara’s World Trigger has faced delays due to the author’s health, but the series continues. Instead of a fourth season, a completely new anime is being made, retelling the entire story from the beginning. You can watch a new trailer for the World Trigger reboot below, and it’s confirmed that many of the original anime’s voice actors are returning!

World Trigger Reboot Reveals Returning Cast and Staff

The anime series World Trigger is getting a complete remake, called the “Reboot Project,” which will retell the story from the beginning, based on the original manga. This new version will cover the Border Enlistment, Large-Scale Invasion, and B-Rank Wars arcs, and promises to be an enhanced experience compared to the first season. Toei Animation, who created the original anime in 2014, is also producing this reboot.

The new trailer for World Trigger Reboot reveals that Morio Hatano will direct the anime at Toei Animation, the studio that created the original series. Hiroyuki Yoshino returns as the scriptwriter, and Toshihisa Kaiya is once again handling the character designs (some of which are shown in the trailer). Confirmed to reprise their roles are Tomo Muranaka as Yuma Kuga, Yuki Kaji as Osamu Mikumo, Nao Tamura as Chika Amatori, Yuichi Nakamura as Yuichi Jin, and Hideyuki Tanaka as Replica.

What’s Even Going on With World Trigger?

This revival is shaping up to be one of the most puzzling reboots Shonen Jump has attempted. The original anime premiered twelve years ago, with two more seasons released over the following decade. However, it never gained massive popularity, and dedicated fans were hoping for a continuation that would adapt more recent storylines from the manga. This reboot could be a chance for those who stopped watching to finally understand what all the excitement is about.

The inconsistent release schedule of World Trigger by Ashihara could be why previous anime adaptations struggled. The author frequently takes breaks, making it difficult for a production company to consistently create new episodes. Restarting the anime from the beginning and aiming for a higher quality adaptation might be the best approach.
