I’m so excited for all the new stuff coming to Peacock! Even though May is almost here, they’re still adding titles in April. I’ve already been enjoying movies like Nosferatu and Pulp Fiction, and the new series The Miniature Wife is really good. But the best part? They’re showing the biggest horror hit from 2023, and you can already watch the sequel too! It’s going to be a great double feature.
I was so excited when Five Nights at Freddy’s came to Peacock on April 26th! As a big fan of the original video games by Scott Cawthon, I had to see it. The movie follows a security guard who takes a job at a creepy, haunted pizzeria, and things quickly get scary with these possessed animatronics. It was a huge hit in theaters, making over $297 million worldwide – it’s actually Blumhouse’s biggest movie ever and the highest-grossing horror film of the year, even beating out films like The Nun II and Scream VI! Because it did so well, they’ve already announced Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, which started streaming on Peacock on April 3rd, and I can’t wait!
Five Nights at Freddy’s Is a Fan-Focused Adaptation That Gets It Right
While critics weren’t impressed with Five Nights at Freddy’s – giving it a low 33% score on Rotten Tomatoes and citing a slow pace, lack of scares, and confusing story – audiences loved it. Fans gave the movie an 86% rating, praising its faithfulness to the video game series and its success in capturing the game’s atmosphere, story, and overall style.
Instead of relying on constant scares, the movie focused on the feeling of trying to survive the night, just like the game. It built tension slowly while telling a story that included important details from the games – like the history of the haunted pizzeria, Mike’s dreams, and the sad story of the missing children. The film was full of references and hidden details that fans would recognize, and it successfully captured the look and feel of the game, bringing the animatronics – Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy – to life with designs from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, and recreating the creepy, abandoned 80s pizzeria. Although some critics didn’t like how much the movie catered to fans, it was a major reason for its success, leading to a sequel that again received mixed reviews but earned a lot of money at the box office.
What’s New on Peacock?
Peacock is adding a lot of great content this month, including the popular film Five Nights at Freddy’s! If you’re looking for something to watch, you can now stream movies like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Dead Poets Society, Face/Off, Interstellar, and Space Jam. Spirit Untamed will be added on April 30th, completing the new additions.
