Over the weekend, a lot of buzz built up around Valve’s new controller – essentially a Steam Deck without the screen – making many people think the Steam Controller might be released very soon. The excitement quickly grew as rumors spread.
This new product seems to be releasing before Valve’s Steam Machine and Steam Frame. Valve originally announced these alongside the Steam Controller, but production has been delayed. The delays are largely due to a recent surge in memory prices – often called ‘RAMageddon’ – which has made it difficult to keep the devices affordable.
The Steam Controller was always planned as a standalone purchase, but it’s notable that Valve might release it before the Steam Machine itself.
Based on an initial review from TechyTalk (which has since been removed), the Steam Controller was expected to cost around $99.

News spreads quickly online, and this information was already circulating on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit before the video was removed.
As the review points out, this controller would only cost $25 more than a standard DualSense, but it’s still significantly cheaper than premium options like the Microsoft Elite 2 and Sony DualSense Edge. It also offers more flexibility thanks to its trackpads, which some have compared to those found on a Mac.

I just saw something really interesting! Another review briefly appeared online – this time on the Japanese site 4Gamer – and it hinted that the Steam Controller might be coming out on May 4th. It was taken down pretty quickly, though!
A new online store page is now available for the Steam Controller on Komodo Station, Valve’s official hardware retailer in Asia.

Before Valve officially revealed its new devices, information about them leaked online through a site called Komodo Station. We can likely expect even more details to emerge in the near future.
Although this information appears to be from reliable sources, Valve can always change its plans. Therefore, the price and release date aren’t final until officially confirmed.
Once an official announcement is made, we will update you as soon as possible!
