Steam Machine Release Date: When Will It Launch?

Valve has confirmed that the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller are still on track for a 2026 release, though final details like launch plans and pricing are being delayed due to ongoing shortages of memory and storage.

Valve addressed confusion around its 2026 product release plans, confirming to The Verge that its timeline hasn’t changed. Spokesperson Kaci Aitchison Boyle explained that the company still expects to launch all three products next year, and they’ve updated their official statement to make that clearer.

Current supply issues, driven by high demand from AI businesses and data centers for memory and storage, are also impacting the Steam Deck. Valve is currently aiming for a 2026 release for the Steam Machine, but hasn’t yet confirmed a specific date, when preorders will open, or how much it will cost.

Steam Machine Price

Valve hasn’t announced how much the Steam Machine will cost yet, and we still don’t know the price for either the 512GB or 2TB versions. They’ve explained that limited availability of memory and storage is making it difficult to set a final price.

So, I was reading around and it looks like that $99 price tag everyone’s talking about is for the new Steam Controller, not the Steam Machine itself! Apparently, Tom’s Hardware spotted it in a review that briefly went live online, but Valve hasn’t said anything official about the price just yet. It’s exciting though, if true!

As a big fan of the Steam Machine, I was really interested to hear Valve engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais talk about how they’re planning the price. Valve is releasing the Steam Machine with two storage options: 512GB and 2TB. You can also expand the storage further using a microSD card. The Steam Machine will be sold by itself, or you can buy it as a package with the new Steam Controller.
