Antonio Banderas Shares Rare Reunion With Ex Melanie Griffith

Antonio Banderasmay have left Hollywood, but he has good reason to visit now and then. 

On a recent trip to Los Angeles, the 65-year-old spent quality time with his ex-wife, Melanie Griffith, their daughter Stella Banderas, and Stella’s husband, Alex Gruszynski. He shared a heartwarming photo of the four of them relaxing together on a couch.

Yesterday was such a heartwarming day! I saw a post from him on X saying he had a wonderful time in Los Angeles with his family – his son-in-law, Alex, his daughter, Stella, and even with Melanie, his ex-wife, who he clearly still considers a close, lifelong friend. It’s just lovely to see them all getting along so well.

Antonio and Alex are both smiling for the camera, but the mother and daughter are absolutely overcome with laughter.

Antonio and Melanie divorced in 2015, but they’ve remained close, both as parents to their children and as friends. In a 2019 interview with Vulture, the actor known for The Legend of Zorro explained, “Even though Melanie and I are no longer married, she’s still family. She’s one of my closest friends, maybe even my best.”

Before this weekend, they’d last seen each other at Stella and Alex’s wedding in October. Following his daughter’s wedding, Antonio shared a heartwarming Instagram video featuring childhood photos of the 29-year-old, celebrating her and their combined family.

My daughter Stella’s wedding has become a wonderfully emotional and happy family reunion filled with laughter,” he shared in a post. “We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make it happen.

Melanie, also the mother of Dakota Johnson (36), Jesse Johnson (43), and Alexander Bauer (40), shared wedding photos to celebrate, including a touching picture of her ex-husband walking their daughter Stella down the aisle.

The 68-year-old shared on Instagram how incredibly happy and loving this time has been, calling it a truly wonderful experience. She also expressed feeling surrounded by a lot of love.

Antonio Banderas, known for his role in Puss in Boots, still prioritizes family despite no longer living in Los Angeles. When he isn’t visiting relatives in Hollywood, he lives in his hometown of Málaga, Spain, with his partner, Nicole Kimpel.

Regarding his move back to Spain, he told The Times on March 25, “I have never been so happy.” 

The Philadelphia graduate isn’t the only one traveling internationally for family matters. Stella also prioritizes her Spanish heritage and chose to have her wedding in Valladolid, Spain, last year.

Antonio told Hola! magazine that his daughter’s wedding in Spain was a way for her to feel connected to her family’s heritage. Even though she was raised in the U.S., she’s very proud of her Andalusian and Málaga roots, and wanted to share that part of herself – and her homeland – with her husband and his family.
